Gear Shift Plate???

I am looking to replace the factory gear shift plate to a real chrome steel plate. Do they exist? If so, how do I get it?

I have tried and tried and tried to replace that peice of crap fake aluminum. The inspires in Japan have real chrome, but their layout is reversed for right hand drive. So far, the only way that you can get it replaceed that I have found is custom work through someplace like Joshua Tree.

Yeah...You can paint it. But I heard the chrome paint just comes out silver. I'm gonna just paint mines white.

I don't think it's tacky if it's done right. It really adds to the custom look of the interior , when you paint it to match the exterior of the car. =\

Anyone know where I can send it to get chromed? Anyone have any idea what something like this would cost? I heard rims cost about $300 a piece.

I have a new one for a 99 that was chromed like my 2000 shift plate. The guy I had do them does not do anymore and when I tried to get people to go in a group thing they thought it was too expensive. Anyway here is a pic of a chromed 99 plate. This one did not have the silver pwder coat scrathed oof to make it chromed, it was taken off then actually chromed by the plastic chroming process. Only metal can be electro plated.

Plastic chroming is not the same process as metal chroming. You can't electrically charge plastic and bond nickle and chrome to it. I don't know any place that will do the plastic after my contact did my 2000 shift plate and a spare which sold and one 99 plate which is pictured. He tried to give us a group rate for a top notch finish but peps on this board said it was too much. He said it isn't worth doing it the cheap way because everyone would complain and then he would give himself a bad rep. They also have to be sanded and prep first because of the uneven surface. Let me know if you find someone , Id like to have my whole dash chromed to reflect more light in the daytime.

If any one is interested in doing a group buy from nighthawkblack's guy I am willing to do it. That is if it is still available.
