Gear Indicator Lights and Transmission
Gear Indicator Lights and Transmission
I just had the transmission replaced on my 2000 Acura TL at 40k miles. I decided to run the shifter through all the gears. When I did that, I noticed that the indicator lights on my dashboard weren't always lighting up to indicate what gear the car was in. All is ok when going from Park to gear 1. But in reverse, all is not ok. My D5 light doesn't light when going from D4 to D5. Then if I flip the shifter to 'manual', the LED light that displays 1 through 5 doesn't light up. And, if I shift from D5 to N, the N doesn't light up. Again, this only happens when going from gear 1 to P. Works ok when going from P to gear 1. I called the dealer and they said it's not related to the transmission replacement. I could have it diagnosed at their normal hourly rate. Any one else have this problem? Any ideas if it is or isn't related to the transmission?
I feel your pain.
When they replaced mine they ended up replacing a sending unit in the tranny that can cause that. Even though they replaced the sending unit, it's still messed up. If I shift from D4 to D5 the light goes out.
If if push it up one more notch into N the light comes back on. If I go to sportshift whilke the light is out, the number indicator wont light. I have to "reset" it by going into N.

Problem resolved...
I took my TL into the dealer today for some other service and spoke to another service advisor. They offerred to have it looked at and diagnosed at no charge.
They fixed the problem. My workorder states nothing more than 'Adjust shift position indicator on transmission'. No charge.
