Lightbulb gas pedal question???

Is it normal for the gas pedal to be pretty stiff and have to be pressed in decently hard to gain acceleration? And is there anyway to adjust this? It seems like i have to press in pretty hard to get moving, but it could just be that i'm not used to it yet, since I just got the car less than a month ago.

does your gas pedal feel like its stuck after the stop sign? if it is then you will need to clean your throttle body

Mine is not, even after a tranny swap.

I really have to be gentle to not just launch the car from a stop.

Take it off and thoroughly clean it.

Carbon deposit can build up on the plate and the inside of the housing and that's probably why it's sticking badly. Either that or something is wrong with the throttle cable linkage.

You can do a half-ass cleaning job and just spray some carb cleaner while the car is running. But it's only a temporary fix and it will build up again real quick. I would recommend taking it out and doing a thorough clean.

It's not the easiest job, though. There are multiple harnesses and hoses you will have to take off. If you know your way around an engine bay, then it's no big deal. If you don't, then I would recommend just doing it the easy way, or leave it to a mechanic.

There is a great do it yourself with pic that was posted some time ago. I have done it and it is not that difficult, so long as you are at least a little bit mechanically inclined. If your the type the breaks everything you try fix, don't do it yourself.

I listed one link. If you do a search for Throttle body cleaning there are lots of posts and detailed directions.

What car did you have before this? There's a stark contrast between gas pedal stiffness between the TL and, say, a Camry.

Okay. Question?
When I clean out my throttle body do I also clean out the idle air control valve?
Idle Air Control valve-Part #2 Lower right of picture

Or, do I just clean out the throttle body as shown below?

Those aren't pictures of the throttle body. Well, you can see it in no.2 in the top right corner, but clearly these are pictures of the intake manifold.

Either way, don't touch the IACV. Just clean out the throttle body plate. That should do it.

taking off the TB really isn't that hard. you can always keep it on and spray seafoam on it and wipe with a clean cloth, reconnect it and then take it for a strong drive.

I'm glad I don't need to clean the IAC valve. It looks like a big job.
If I remember correctly, I've read many threads indicating that the IAC valve gets clogged often? Anyways, thanks I'll just clean out the throttle body plate.

A sticky gas pedal really wouldn't have anything to do with the IACV. That's why you don't need to clean it for this situation.

The throttle linkage is all mechanical on our cars. If this had happened on the 3G TL, then I would recommend inspecting the pedal itself first. But based on my experience on mechanical throttle linkages, it's usually the throttle body getting sticky.

When I installed the spacers on my car, I noticed my TB was sticking, too. But it wasn't to a point that it would make the pedal sticky. But I cleaned it nonetheless while everything was out.

I don't know if you mod your car or not, but if you're going to take the TB out to clean it, then you might as well get the spacer kit (101 shipped) and install it while everything is taken apart. Just a thought.

I agree. I'll look into Purchasing a spacer kit. ^My gas pedal is fine. I actually want to do this because about a month ago my car idled for couple seconds than the engine stopped. On my second attempt the car started. I never had that problem again to this day. This weekend I have a lot of time in my hands therefore, I thought it would be a good D.I.Y. project. Thanks for your help, I'll clean the throttle body plate myself and I'll ask my father’s friend which is a mechanic to clean the IAC valve (I really don't want to mess with the IAC valve). Thanks again.

Was the pedal in the GTP easy to press like most GM cars? You may just be adjusting to the stiffness of the TL. I get out of a Camry and think "Jesus the steering and gas pedal in this TL seem overly stiff"

My gas petal is quite sensitive. First time my wife drove the car she mentioned that it takes off real easy. My 15 yr. old on his driving permit has no problem with that! Imagine that!
