Gas consumption
I've been driving my 2000 TL for a year or so and my gas consumption is starting to get rediculous. This weekend I did 100 miles and used half a tank. Any ideas on how to get this fixed or is this normal for this car at 60000 miles?

When was the last time you did any maintenance ?
How's your tire pressure ?
Air filter ? Fuel system ? I use the Chevron Techron stuff you pour in your gas tank.

yes this car seem to suck up gas to me also, even more when you stay in the vtec. try what SK2003TypeS said and try to stay below vtec as much as possible.

Mine too...half tank and I go barely over 150 KM.....And I my car is well maintained. Oil changed, tires properlly inflated, proper alignment. Do you think I require fuel injector cleaner?

I've been using Cheveron Techron for over 10 years. If you do it a few times a year, you may not notice any difference. My previous beater car was treated like junk and I remember doing the gas treatment once and it made the car idle and rev a lot smoother.

i drive mine hard hard and almost always get atleast 200 to a half tank (except in winter when its 20-30% lower mileage due to winter blends)
try switching to a different make of fuel, and try changing your driving style

I get around 175 to 225 per half tank depending on how much lead is in my foot that day -- since i drive 60 miles each way to work, i usually manage to always get 2 days out of a tank. I did notice lower gas economy using less then 93 octane, thus don't make that mistake anymore ;-) Usually end up with 94 from Sunoco as it seems to have the best performance over 5k rpms ;-)

Are you stating that you drove 100 miles and when you filled up, it took 8.5 gallons?
The gas gauge in my '99 is not all that accurate, so trying to use it to determine what kind of mileage I am getting is a waste of time.

dont believe that. your saying you get 400 miles to a tank no matter what? do you live on the highway?

[QUOTE=vtlec01]
im a very hard driver as many on this forum know. its not BS
85% of my driving is on the hwy.(hence teh reason i have 172,000 miles) i just recently towed my 4wheeler (900 lbs, and it was on a 800+lb trailer) and got 175 miles to the half tank on the hwy at 74mph.
i have gotten well over 400 to a tank MANY times when my driving consisted of mostley hwy miles

For me, city vs. hwy is a world of difference....I get like 27 hwy and usually 18-19 city. Last two tanks I've done a lot more city than usual and getting like 16 mpg.
