whats a gas card going to do for you? you still have to pay. And only 45 a week?? Must be nice, i have to do that just about every day- every other day.

I just stick it on my Visa. Then I can use any station I want incase I get in trouble somewhere.

I just don't like having a ton of cards in my wallet with all their bills to keep track of and pay.

Some gas stations have credit and prepay cards that give a discount, such as with Speedway stations in Michigan:

"Q: What rebates do I earn with the Speedway SuperAmerica Platinum MasterCard?

A: The Speedway SuperAmerica Platinum MasterCard offers a 8% rebate on all Speedway, SuperAmerica, and Rich Oil purchases for the first 60 days your account is open. After that, you'll earn a 4% rebate on all your Speedway purchases, and you'll also earn a 1% rebate on everything else you buy with the card. (Speedway Purchases are purchases of goods and services made with the Speedway SuperAmerica Platinum MasterCard at Speedway, SuperAmerica, and Rich Oil locations.)"

Prepay cards also get a 4% discount so you pay $96 to get $100 worth of gas.

BTW today I pumped 92 premium and the pump price was $2.959/gal, so my net cost after the 4% discount works out to be $2.84/gal.

If gas does happen to go down in the future (not trying to start a debate here, just saying IF it does) you will still be stuck paying off ur $3.67 gas so basically all ur doing is prolonging the high gas price problem. As of now, I'm actually glad gas is so high. Traffic has cut down tremendously and getting to school every day is a breeze. It's worth every penny.

I don't really understand how charging your gas to a credit card instead of paying cash is going to prolong the higher gas prices.

If I buy 10 gallons at $3.00 a gallon in cash, it is $30 today.
If I buy 10 gallons at $3.00 a gallon on credit, it is $30 in a couple weeks.

Either way, you have to spend the $30, and the gas company still gets the $30.

Never looked at it that way...I guess that is one benefit. I will say I have definitely tailored my driving to get the best gas mileage possible. And for the gas card, I would definitely go with the prepaid one if anything. If you can afford to throw some money on it now, I think it will pay off. And you won't be screwed if the gas prices do go down like if you put it on a credit card. Just my

He didn't say he was paying it off in a couple weeks, therefore interest would get added onto that 3.00. So, if he had a 1 year interest rate of 7.99%, it would be 3.00 today and roughly 3.24/gal in a year assuming he pays it off at the 1 year mark. If he pays it off before he will still have accrued interest for each month he postponed paying it off. That wasn't the point I was trying to make, the point was by biting the bullet now, it will prevent you from worrying about it later when everyone else is riding around paying 2.00/gal and he's stuck paying off his 3.00/gallon from last year.

True, gas cards can be good if you pay them off every month.

Guys this really isnt a Second Gen specific thread, and there are about 20 Gas threads in the O/T Form.

P.S. I use my Discover Gas Card for all my gas, it gives me a 5% cash back bonus on gas, and 1% on all regular purchases. If cashed in through cetain merchants like the sharper image, blockbuster, etc, the bonus gets doubled.
