Yeah, safe. 
Maybe if you are sitting at a stop light and someone rams into you. But definitely NOT safe when the tranny goes on you while driving on the highway at 70mph and the car lurches down into 2nd gear without warning. :wow: Definitely not cool (or safe). I know because it happened to me.
