Fuel System Cleaning

Anyone here recommend this fuel system flush or just change the fuel filter?

Welcome to AcuraZine!

A very stern "no" was the answer I got from a local dealer. Two of the service techs + the service manager said NOT to do a major fuel system clean/flush (where you have two or three diff chemicals that you run through various hoses/systems in the car + machine). They said they used to do 'em, but Honda has since told them not to, as numerous customers then experienced problems with their catylitic converters.

there isnt really a need to clean any thing. if your going to clean any thing you would pull out your injectors and soak them in a cleaner designed for cleaning injectors. nothing else is really able to get dirty or hurt flow

I found that peridically adding a bottle of Chevron Techron to my cars over the years keep the injectors very clean.. When on sale pick up a bunch.

Yeah I have Penzoil product, which I use every 10-12 fill ups. The thing is, I'm not the first owner of the car so I don't know how consistent the previous owners were with premium gas fill-ups.

BTW I'm a new owner of a 99TL. Chevron or Penzoil, which is a better brand? How often do I need to use this? I've used fuel injector cleaner before and some says in the bottle "every other fill-up.."

I haven't had any bad experiences so far. "Every other fill-up" seems kinda often to me but I try and do it when I "feel" it needs it.

I've been using Cheveron Techron in my cars for years. I use it a few times a year. I usually grab the bottle that is suppose to be used for 12 gallons. With the TL, I've been using it on a full tank. Last time I used it, I did it with a half a tank and it felt like there was a little more pep.
It works best if you use it on a regular basis (recommended every 3000 miles). Don't expect it to be a miracle product if you use it every 2 years or whatever.

I heard Ethanol Gasoline will get your fuel lines cleaned itself.

Thumbs up

I use redline fuel cleaner also, after every 12 fill ups of Chevron Premium Gas. I have a 99TL with 70000 miles and still runs strong and smooth.

Peace

The fuel filter in the TL is not serviceable. It is meant to be changed out with the pump as a module.

(I looked it up on Mitchell - and that's basically what was written.)
