Post Fuel Mileage revisited

Could it be that I get poor mileage because when I turn on the HVAC on auto, it always turns on the compressor regardless of how cold or hot the thermostat is...I know that the A/C usually sucks up more gas when it's on...and with the compressor being turned on all the time in auto mode, could this make a difference?

You might be right. hmmm... maybe I should try driving w/o A/C on. I always keep it at Auto Climate Control... which shouldn't be too good for the fuel efficiency.

Another thing I should stop doing might be to cruise in D4 on fwy. And maybe, just maybe, I shouldn't downshift so often to pass ppl. Power eats gas!

Cool

I can't remember a time when I drove my car without the A/C on auto. Remember I do live in Hawaii! And I still been getting 24-26 mpg!

Think of it like this. The higher the gas milege you get the less fun you had. For real. just ask the 360 Modena...

I drove 500 miles this weekend and averaged 29.5 MPG. Not too shabby-

My thoughts precisely! It doesn't make sense that the compressor turn on when the temperature is below a certain amout..After realizing that the gas mileage may be hampered from the running compressor, I to put the car in auto, then shut off the AC.

I turn off the a/c but leave it on auto. Full auto probably does use more gas cuz it turns on the a/c to regulate the tempature. But the a/c does help keep the car from fogging up.

During the winter I put the system in AUTO, then set AC OFF. I do this because I noticed the A/C will cycle on and off if you don't force it to stay off, probably in response to the heat.

I think the programming is not right here! The A/C should not automatically come on when the temperature is below 40°F! That's a waste of energy for sure.
