In my 99TL I had tucan xenon 1157 front turning signal lights, I didn't mind too much that they didn't match my HID (even tho thats what I wanted) Then I saw a honda accord with turning lights that were slightly blue and closer to HID color then my xenon. I forgot to ask him what kind of bulb he uses. I came online and was thinking I should replace my bulbs with PIAA Xtreme Super whites 1157. I just put them in and there isn't much of a difference from my tucan (the tucan were slightly dimmer but they are like 1.5 yrs old). I was considering polarg type 1157 and I was wondering if this would be closer to HID look then my Xtreme Super whites (closest color to HID color my @$$). Anyone with Polarg 1157 tell me how it looks or recommend me a bulb with slight blue/white look?

Isn't it illegal to have something like that? I'm pretty sure turn signals are suppose to be amber or orange. You might just attract more cops than anything........

 

Depends on the state, IIRC. It seems a lot of cops let it slide anyways. I see a lot of imports around my area with blue bulbs all over the place and I never see them get pulled over. I've only seen them get pulled over if they don't have red brake lights.

 

I haven't been pulled over here in Gainesville (believe me UF campus cops pulls even bikes over for something stupid). So I'm guessing its legal. long as its not a red bulb for front turning signal its ok (thats what one cop told me).

 

There's no way to get that HID look for the turn signals. Our turn signals utilize dual filament. So in the parking light mode, it's only using 5w. Unless you want to rig up your lights.

 

yeah I know there is noway to get HID look for turn lights. I just seen cars using 1157 like accords and civics with bluer hues then mine when the turn signal isn't on and I seen one that was really bright.....does anyone out there use LED 1157? is there any special mod you need to do. how bright is it when the park lights are on?

 

i'm using 1157 really blue led bulbs but whats happenin is when i'm not using the blinker they simply stay off (i guess not enough wattage (so all u see is HID, which = ) but when i turn them on they hyper blink and after awhile thats startin to blow my bulbs out in the back and thats startin to piss me off..... so i'm switchin to regular (probably polarg) bulbs

 

really??? LED 1157 don't light up just with parking light? Isn't it illegal to drive without front side marker lights then? Are you sure it wasn't 1156 LEDs? Can anyone out there tell me if Polarg 1157 bulbs would be better (brightness and whiteness) then my PIAA Xtreme Super white 1157?

 

No, the polargs aren't any better. I have the polargs M14 or somthing don't rememeber, they don't match HIDs at all, the only time they are bright is when u have the signal on.

Most state illegal to have front corner not yellow or amber. Depending on how the LED 1157 is made, there might be 1 contact or 2 contact, if it's 1 contact then it won't light up with parking light, if 2 contact then 1 set of LEDs will turn on with parking and the other set will turn on when u signal.

I'm currently working on my "Parking/Signal Light Mod" I just need some free time to wire it. Using a relay, i'm gonna have both Filaments on at the same time when the parking light is on. And have the brighter filament turn off when i signal. I'll probbalby have it up within a week.

 

Can't wait to see the mod. that would look great. it would shorten the life of the bulbs no?

 

yeah, bulbs will die faster....won't be using expensive polargs anymore, be using cheap generic ones

 

If you ever get the light mod going, post it, I'm willing to try it.

 

With that light mod, your lights will blink faster. I did that but now I have a relay from www.hyperbright.com but I don't think they're in business anymore. This way the lights will bling normal speed.

 

just changed out the turn signals, OMG, was it ever annoying, had to take the front two wheels off, turning them all the way won't help since i've got wide tires!!!! a pain in the neck!!!!

 

I hear you TL_99. I took out my old Tucan xenon and put in PIAA. Its still a tight fit to get my hand in there with the tires off. 1999TL how about a post on the light mod so I can try it.
