Hello Aziners!


I just wanted to inform I found my clunking problem after 2 months of just letting it be (LAAAAZZYYYYY)... I finally decided to remove the wheel today and inspect the suspension.


Issue: Clunk & Knock when suspension drops (Conforming to a pot hole or going down a small decline) anything that made the suspension stroke..


Culprit: LOOSE Bolt in the Sway Bar link (Links are less than 6 months old FYI I checked them to see if they had any play but they are still solid had to turn them with a wrench to make them move then I looked at the bolts). The top side bolt of the link was literally 2 turns loose and it was the whole culprit of a horrible clunking sound and knock! The knock was so hard I could feel it in the chassis beneath my feet.. Tighten the sucker and vualá!! Dead Silent suspension again!!


So I hope this help for future reference if anyone is trying to pin point the cause of clunk or knocks in suspension even a loose bolt can cause it.

 

I have a similar noise when I go over the speed bumps in my apartment complex. I will check this tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is a torque spec for this, or will a basic snug suffice?

 

Nothing beats the cheapest fix of all, tightened a bolt. Priceless!

 

Basic Snug is for me but I still applied some Blue Thread Lock because I did torque them pretty good when I installed them.. Dunno why it become loose :/





Indeed and my laziness keep me hearing the clunk for Months :S I really thought it would be something else but a Loose Bolt was all to it.

 

Ive had this noise for like 4 months now and have been too lazy too look. Time to jack it up and now i know where to start THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I just had new sway bar links put on two days ago and now my car is making a horrible clunking/knocking sound pretty randomly.. but this might be it.. the mechanic was just putting the links on while I was at the shop to pick the car up so maybe he was rushing to get it ready for me and didn't tighten them..

Going to bring it back tonight, if this is the problem I know he won't charge me for it.

 

^ Funny thing is, When I installed mine I'm pretty sure I tighten up correctly.. The bolt itself backed out for some reason over time, When I redid it I applied some Locktite Blue so it would not back out by itself again.

 

I had a clunking sound for a few weeks that i assumed was sway bar related......then one day my brake caliper fell off and got stuck in my wheel.

Never take these sounds for granted.

 

The fact that I just had new sway bar links put on and the noise was apparent right after leads me to believe this is the cause, especially since he was rushing to finish them.

I also watched some videos online of problematic links and it sounds exactly the same.. and like Skirmich mentioned I can feel the "noise" in the chassis under my feet.

Taking it to the shop in a few hours.
