Fog Light help, It keeps blowing out

I switched to eaglite fog bulbs a little while back on my 03 TL and the passenger side one shattered inside the housing. I figured maybe I touched the bulb by mistake so it blew up. I took it off and shook all the glass out of if and put in a new bulb and it also shattered in 1 day. It seems to work fine when I first turn them on to look at them and both times in a few days the one side just shatters! Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks

I have had my bulbs burn out pretty fast but I am still trying to figure out if it is because of the bulbs or the little moisture inside the housing. I have tried to dry it up inside but I cant get rid of it. Is there moisture in there?

just out of curiosity, which wattage are you using? i could have sworn i read something before about having problems with the higher wattage bulbs burning out quicker because the bulbs they used had heated the wiring too much in the past and made the foglight connections unreliable (or something to that effect).

Im using the 55 watt bulbs, but i dont have a problem with them burning out.......they accually break and the bulb is in tiny pieces inside the housing. They break within a day or 2 of me puttin new ones in. I also dont see any mositure in them either.

Did you try putting back the original stock ones? Try cleaning the bulbs with rubbing alcohol?

alright i've been battling w/ short lived foglamps for a year now and have found the fix.
First of all i use my f/lamps min of 2 hours a day, and i have the f/l mod so they blink w/ the alarm.
Heat kills the element in the bulb so i removed the shatter shield from the foglamps and havent replaced another bulb in 4 mons now.
I've been warned of someone somewhere getting blackspot on the refectors but I havnt and dont expect to.
you must remove the lens to take the shield out so do the plexi-glass mod while your at it.

That sounds like a solution. Does it look any brighter once that sheild has been removed?

Moisture in the housing is a No No. You have to take the casing off and use silicone or something else to seal it properly...

They were the original fog light housings, I dont even know how the moisture got in there the first place. I tried using a blow dryer and leave them out overnight in the house.

Wouldn't I have to remove the metal bracket and then break the glass to get inside?

I dont know about removing a metal bracket. All I know is that it has to be sealed. I would try removing the entire casing from the car...then see if you can seal up the sides after you dry the inside with a blow dryer. It has to be sealed though, otherwise your bulbs will keep blowing out.

Oh, it may have gotten moisture because it was hit with a rock. That's what happened to mine.

I see no cracks. I noticed the moisture inside after I drove up in the near the mountains at night and there was a lot of fog. When morning broke and I stopped to get gas... my entire front bumper including some of the headlights and all of the fog lights were covered in ice.

its quite possible the seal on the glass distorted from the cold/heat and let some moist air in. you never know.

yield2s - i didnt know that was a mod, thats pretty cool then because mine blink with the alarm too, must have been something the previous owner did.

Try examining the foglight housing...search for cracks on the plastic covering. It's most likely moisture built up inside the foglight housing. If you need new Lexan housing, I believe NYDesi80 is selling them...PM him for more info. Good luck!

The F/l housing is NOT air tight. look at the back and youll see a couple of "vents". I idea is not to let water in the housing but with moisture in the air it's possible to get some in anyways. It's never happened to me but I guess its poss.
ya satinsilver the previous owner deff did the mod to your car.
