My maint. req'd light is coming on and flashing 10 times everytime I start the car...I called the dealer and the guy I bought the car from and they both said that it is because the car automatically keeps track of how many miles until your next oil change...is this true? Because if it is, then how come it is still flashing even though I just changed my oil not even two days ago? I got the car at 73608 miles on it, and now it is 79689...and when I got the car, the maint. req'd light stayed on the whole time. I got the oil changed the day I got the car and then reset it using the method in the manual...is this the same situation that I am describing? Or does the flashing Maint. req'd light mean something else? Not bad I hope....

 

He's telling you the truth. It starts flashing every (roughly) 6000 miles since last reset and will remain on every 7500 miles (I think).

There's a simple procedure to turn it off. Press both reset and select buttons for the trip odometer with the car off. Turn the car to the run position (with the buttons pressed), and wait about 10 seconds until the maint req. light turns off. That's it.

It will flash again in about 6000 miles (but you now know how to deal with that).
