First oil change

I've had my 2003 TLS for 3 months now and have 4000 miles on it. Should I take it in for an oil change or wait until the recommended 7500 miles?

I'd get it changed. I thought the first one recommended at 3700 or something ? I probably misread something.

They recommend it being changed at 7.5k. I changed mine at 2, 4, 6, 8 (switched to syn)... I would never let it go to 7.5k. You cant go wrong by putting new oil. Even if they say it special break in oil..

I believe the manual recommends 3750 for the first recommended change. This is also what my dealer mentioned.

I actually did mine at 4200... and since that oil change I've been using synthetic.....

The Manual says to change the oil at 7500 mioles. That is especially important because there is a special break in oil that needs to be left in as long as possible.

By changing the oil too soon you could damage the engine.

Some ppl said I should, some said no. It has been 3 months though. Should I drive to and from Canada 3 times this weekend to hit 7500 lol

I called the Acura dealer and told them the situation and he said "might as well" Confused

keep in kind the way people take care of their cars differs as much as the opinions on this board. if you want black and white read the manual and do exactly what honda says to do disregarding their motives ie useing 5w 20 instead of more protection.
but here's some really good info about honda motor break-ins. i just did a search on the www under "honda break-in" enjoy.http://www.g1teg.org/howto/enginebreakin.html

Great. I've been keeping the RPMs at 2K max for 700+ miles. Real slow starts for sure, but it can get me to 65MPH on the highway.

Shows what I don't know.

Nobody or no manual could ever tell you when to change the oil, or predict the oil condition.

I check the oil level and purity very often, and when it gets dirty, I get an oil change. Simple as that. I'm not gonna wait until 3,000 miles or whatever just because the manual says, when the oil is already dirty.

Btw, I did my first oil change at before 3,000 miles.
