First Oil Change

How long after you got your card did you do your first oil change. The manual says something like 7,000 miles but I think that is probably on the ridiculous side. How many miles should it be done? 3,000? 4,000? 5,000? My car has about 3,000 miles on it and is about 5 and a half months old...

Acura of Pasadena recommended that I change my oil after 7500 because there's some special oil in there that has to be in there until then. Any truth to this?

If you RTFM (), you will see that depending on whether your car falls into the 'normal' or 'severe' classification of service schedules, it is recommended that you keep the original factory oil for 7500mi (normal) or 3750mi (severe). Supposedly, there are some special additives in it that help to condition seals, rings, etc. Some people are worried about engine particulates and such, so they change it out early. Don't know if that's a terrible thing or not, but I'm not a gearhead, so I just do what it says so the dealer doesn't have any excuse to try and void my warranty down the road. *shrugs*

I would suggest doing it every 3 months or 3000 miles, whicjhever comes first. Its a small cost to keep the engine happy.

Oh, I have no problem with the cost. That isn't the issue. I just wanted to make sure I should do it now or if I should wait. The manuel does say "severe" weather and I do live in FL where it is aweful hot... I currently have 3700 miles on my car I guess I'll a dealer tomorrow and make an appointment.

IMO the reason Acura wants you to go in every 7500 for the oil change is because they want you to end up buying a new Acura every 4 to 5 years cause that is how long your motor will last...
