Unhappy It Finally Happenned, Tranny Died in Austin

I always thought it was a matter of when, not if. Check engine light, then TCS, then the gear lights all came on. Jerky ride all the way home. It's gone and I am at 121K miles (2000). Anybody think I can get some kind of goodwill gesture out of one of the two Austin dealerships? How should I approach the service dept?

<----- Oh, that has got to piss you off??? Man that sucks...good luck with the dealerships. Best bet is to start calling around for the best price on a rebuild with 121K.

You will probably have the best luck with the dealership you bought the car from. See if you can at least get them to split the cost with you. Good Luck.

Thanks guys, unfortunately the place where I bought my car and have a rappor with is in Houston and I have since moved to Austin. I guess I'm about to put Acura service to the test...

Hey, I went to drive the TL to see what would happen and if I could drive it to the dealer tomorrow, and it drove fine, but now the engine light stays on. Could it just be a fluke that it is driving OK right now, and does the engine light mean anything or does it indicate the tranny?

I thought the warranty was 7year/100k? Since you have the 00 your still covered.

Code:

Take it in anway. Once it gets hot it should start giving you problems. Aproach them with the confidence that you know that this shit happens all the time and they need to fix it under the warranty. Dont back down!

I cant believe this, the tranny went AGAIN for the 2nd time in 4 months.
I will be fighting with my dealership for a new car or my money back. I have contacted an attorney. This car is def a LEMON!!

You would have to check the lemon law in your State, but I doubt that would qualify as a 'lemon'. I know it's frustrating though! There are a few people here who are on their 3rd and 4th trannies. Many are on their second.

Edit: Did you buy the '03 recently?

you should hit up an AutoZone in the morning and see what the code says first. Mine did that one time also, the lights flashed, but the ride was fine - and still is. It was just another code that it threw.

i had the exact same thing happen to me....my TL broke down in austin....and i woke up the next morning to start the car and it worked....but everytime i was at a light it wouldn't go pass 20mph...so i pulled over...let it cool down...started it again and got back on the highway...i did this a few times until i could get ALL the way back to Houston......when i got back....(sunday) i had to wait til the next day....got it towed to the dealership even though it was still driving...they test drove it...and found no problems at first (because of course it was still cool) so they check the CEL and it was the tranny....throwing a "gearing problem" code or soething w/ the tranny..... but then again i had 88k on my car...good luck w/ your car at 120k and let me know whas up...cuz im at 97k right now and my tranny still doesnt feel right...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, I am in austin and I had my tranny replaced about 5 months ago. Called Sterling Acura, brought it in and got a new tranny in 3 days. They gave me a rental too. I would suggest going there unless you are closer mcdavid acura up north.

My tranny just went last Thursday on the way to the airport to catch a flight - 02 TL with 33,000 very easy miles on it. At least it's covered by warranty and I'll have free loaner for the next week while the parts are ordered. Totally sucks.

You guys scare the hell out of me! I just bought an 02 TL with 58,000...I take it to the dealer Monday to have that "oil jet" installed (part of the recall). Have any of you had the "jet" installed, and still lost the transmission?

Yes, it happened to me. I had my tranny replaced just a few months ago. A few months previous, the oil jet kit was installed in response to a letter I got from Acura.
