for the best range always park in open areas and keep a fresh battery in the remote. two years ago when i got my compustar i also added a proximity sensor to protect the perimitter of the vehicle so that people wouldnt sit or lean on it .

Hey, I've got a CompuSTAR 2000-AS and I'd like to hear how you got that proximity sensor installed. I didn't see that as an option on their website.

i dont know if it is an option or not from compustar but its something i wanted added on and any good sound/security shop should be able to tie a proximity sensor into one of the alarm zones most preferable the doors.

The CompuStar has been great for me as well. And like any alarm, you can add accessories to it that are made by others. In my install i used a Clifford Intelisenor instead of the Compustar shock sensor. The alarm is triggered by a negative pulse which any accessory will put out (including items like a proximity sensor.) Just be sure to attach it to the correct input on the alarm brain since the remote has the LCD display which shows what sensor was triggered. in the case of the proximity sensor, you'd want to use a diode and tie it into the same input as the shock sensor. And remember you have two choices here as well since the stock Compustar shock sensor is a two stage unit, first detecting minor touching and also major impacts like a window being broken (or headlights being stolen! )

Ah, Vincent--see what happens when you don't ask and/or do your research beforehand?

The main reason I got this Alarm was that I live in apartment where the parking lot is totally opposite side of my room. With normal alarm, there is no way I can hear when the alarm goes off. BUT with this Compustar alarm I can monitor my car with LCD remote controller. and Let me tell you this new Spread Spectrum one has Unblieveble range. It JUST works everywhere.!!!! Even inside of buildings!!!! When the alarm goes off, the LCD remote will make beeping sound and vibrate. and which side of the car has been violated. now I can open windows and sunroof with a touch of a button.!! not to mention the automatic engine starts.! oh and it has pager in the lower corner of the front wind shield so any 1 can page the owner of the car.
I just love this alarm.!~~~ lots of cool stuffs...period..

WhatchutalkinboutWillis? I did my research... just want to do more now. Hey buddy, at least I have it installed!

Actually, what I really want to get working is the sunroof open/close function. But *ahem* someone's bro is dragging his feet!

Later,

Heh, heh, heh... I'm with ya bro! I love how mine works, too. I have one question for ya though... what did ya have to do to get the sunroof and windows to open and close like that?

Hey, no fair--I'm not as loaded with cash like you are, especially given the extensive list of mods you have on your car. But...at least I can get the latest one with the spread spectrum, so ha!

I can't say much about my bro--remember, his is a small shop, and good alarm installers are hard to find. Not that he can't do it himself, but he can't do everything (see StreetEffectz thread where one guy was complaining about his part not arriving for months). Having said that, dontcha be criticizing my bro--cuz next time you go to him for another install or something, I'm gonna let him know about what you said about him. Once he gets wind of it he may decide to use your car to practice donuts in the rear parking lot!!!
