Final word on transmission problems
I got 00 TL with almost 18k on it. so far, no problems, except for the "usual' hesitation while switching between R and D. However, lately I spotted one fing. After long and fast (95 - 110 mph) highway driving, when I get of the highway and start driving in the city the tranny sort of takes more time to shift (up or down). It goes away after like 15 to 20 mins. When it happend first time, I was likem WTF? But then it occured to me: Does our trannies like learn the way we drive? Are they like driver stile adaptive? I don't know, maybe I'm full of crap, you guys tell me.

How often are you guys changing your tranny fluid. Although the manual says around 30K it should be done at half that interval if you drive "spirited". When you do have it changed make sure they use Honda ATF. This is very important because the honda trannies are designed to use this fluid. Honda ATF is the only fluid with the right friction modifiers and tolerences! I just flushed the tranny and 90% of my tranny problems dissapeared. Smoother shifts, less hesitation, and no longer refuses to upshift/downshift when it should. Although I don't own a TL I guarentee this info is relevent. A member on the Legend boards has helped about 20 of us fix our trannies when the dealer/shop suggested a rebuild. Hope this helps.

Pawel, you are not full of crap. I believe our trannys do "learn" the way we drive. (Fuzzy logic or whatever they call it these days.) A similar thing happend to me as it did you. I was driving, shall we say, aggressively, for just a few miles. When I stopped at the first red light and then began to start off (green light, of course) with just a slight touch of the accelerator, my TL-S took off like I wanted to race someone. I don't know if it was the tranny, the VTEC or what, but it definitely "remembers" how you were driving. But I don't know if it remembers from day to day or just that one driving "session."
I have a '99 and I've noticed a few things which I do not know if they are normal so guys, help me out.
1) Downshifting is show as shiat. It hesitates to downshift and the engine struggles.
2) My tranny shifts gears early sometimes like on a hill and I get no power. The car is supposed to stay at a high gear going uphill.
3) I get a loud clack when you put it from drive to reverse.
What do you guys think?
ALSO, I want to know how the car will be after the transmission is replaced? Any side effects long term/short term? Its a pretty big thing to replace so what do you think?

The 3rd point is normal, but I am not sure about the other two.
My acura also up shift during up hills, but it shifts back down when your car is too slow for that piticular gear ,or when you put a bit more gas.
I think you should focus on your first point cuz My TL shifts down as soon as I down shift.
hope this helps

just to be sure, maybe itll be better to ask, do you guys just floor the everytime(or most of the time)?
do you mash on the gas just to go fast or is it that the trany sux and it just blew out? cuz i know eventually when you just keep pushin the car to the max, the tranny will just ka poot.
