Nice rides...boy do I love those M3's. They are such a sexy car. cls-d, I heard that there had been some problems with the M3 motors. Some one was telling me that there has ben a substantial amount of M3 motors blowing pistons/cylinder heads..etc. Is this true?

The problems were mostly on 2001 models... they were realted to people not breaking them in properly and the engine oil they used for them....Most 02-03 had that problem eliminated...and the warranty on the engine has been extended to a 100k miles.

Beautiful rides man. The M3 has always been a favorite of mine......such a beautiful ride.
I did hear that the next design is going to look a bit awkward though. Who knows......that's what I thought about the new 7's and now every time I see one I cant help but turn my head.

Smg is a lot of fun, a lot of times the car feels like there is a clutch present....I am glad I chose it over the 6spd...I just learned how to use the launch control....revved up the engine to 3000 rpm and dropped the clutch...that was the baddest burnout I ever experinced....

The rims are Dronell Type I 3pcs 19x8 +47 offset with brand new Toyos Proxes 235-35-19....WIth the Comptech drop no rubbing whatsoever

I ordered them directly from Japan, paid $3500 for them and it took about 2 months to get here....Dronell doesnt have a US distributor right now...so none of the shops carry them...

cls-d - Thanks for the info on the wheels for you CLS ... The reason why I was asking is that they look alot like the Hamman wheels for the BMW.

You're absolutely right Mike, it's a close match to the Hamman's....

This is interesting. I thought that the EURO M3s have launch control which is set at 3800rpms, while the US version has launch control set at 1800-2200 RPMS. How did you manage to get your RPMs up to 3000 before launching?

Also, have you tried just stumping on the gas while in S6 w/ DSC off?

As for the reported M3 engine problem. The issue is that there was a change in the the rod bearing, which was not communicated to the entire M division clearly. So, while the bearing size changed the other parts were not. This caused oil starvation to the valves and lifters, causing engines to blow. This is mostly during the 10/2001 - early 2002. The issue has been resolved since.

cls-d - Yup, definitely launches at 1800. I tried this last night. I've heard about the gas pedal pumping method, where some people have gotten it to launch at as high as 2800RPMs. I tried it but doesn't work. I am DYING to know how you launched at 3000!!!!
