fan not working
fan not working
recently when my car idiols the temp gauge always goes to hot. I heard the fan blowing but i didnt know why so i looked and only one of the two fans works. is there a fix for this or would i need a new fan?
the fan right in front of the headers does not spin. the one near the battery and intake is the one that spins when my car is idioling. i would assume the one near the headers is the more important one. i also just went to the dealership for my egr cleaning and oil change which they said went up in price to $44 because it now includes all fluids being topped off so i also assume my coolant is topped off.
the driver side fan is the main cooling fan- the passenger side one is controlled by the AC being ON
The dealer charged more on their oil change for extra fluids?- sounds like a generic shop charge unless the specify what they add....if its LOW on anything there is a problem that needs to be looked at.
That kind of charge is usually generic for rags and cleaners.
NEVER expect that everything was actually done on the fluids!!!

The passenger side fan on my 00 TL is constantly running. The driver side fan never works and my car gets hot when idling in hot 100 degree traffic. Even with the AC on the fan never comes on. Coolant is full and fresh.
Most years- not sure on 99
passenger side fan is activated by the AC- having ac on when overheating is bad- puts more load on the engine and cooling system- its `radiator` is in front of the cars radiator
driver side fan is the temp controlled one for cooling
Most years- its sensor is located on the passenger side - bottem corner of the radiator- it will have a wire going to it. OR its at the thermostat housing- again, look for a wire
Thats a common part to go out-
Or
the fan itself is dead- check the fan fuses and relays, connectors, and jumper wire the fan to make sure it works.
You need the driver side fan working for the engine to survive.
