Exhaust that Growls?

Exhaust that Growls?
Raced a Accord today and his exhaust made a deep growling sound when he was revving his engine. Sounded like he had a bear strapped underneath. Any idea of what that was?
And no I didn't get a chance to see the back as all I saw was him in my rear-view as I left him.....
