Excessive humming from front end

Hi guys, own a 03 TL-S 140k miles on it. I'm having a weird noise issue coming from the front end It sounds exactly like a bad bearing or like really noisy tires. I usually can hear in between 35-50 MPH with 40mph being the sweet spot where it is SUPER loud its a humming sound and goes away once I hit 60mph+.

It sounds so much like worn bearings, but I changed the front bearings last year for MOOG bearings on both sides. I even went up to 40mph and went left to right but the noise was still constant while swerving in both directions. I then purchased new tires thinking my General Exclaims were the culprit. Put on a set of Pirellis but the exact same noise is still there! All the bearings have been changed front+ rear and I have a set of brand new tires where else is there to look??

Sure sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Have someone listen to the bearings on a hoist with a stethoscope. Check all 4. Also, grab each tire at 6 o'clock and 12 and try to shake it.

100% agree. Also is it noisier when turning right? If it's always constant it could be a CV axle too, which are much easier to change on our cars. I'd have it checked out because if it's super loud that means somethings is going to break soon. When you hack up the front end and spin the front wheels do you hear a grinding sound at all?

My guess would be a bearing. The rears are known to wear out faster than the fronts on these cars for some reason. It could be the rear causing the noise. Those are very easy to change. If its not the bearings it could be a CV.

Front end Humming

I have this very same problem. It just stared 3 weeks ago at 140K. Humming gets stronger at 45 -55 then seems to subside at 60+mph. I had the tires replaced and the the bearings were checked with a stethescope. Is it possible that they were unable to find the problem (assuming it is a bearing) with the stethescope?

if they spun the wheel by hand they might have missed the bearing noise
Or you have a different problem
were all the cv bearings ckd?
bushing are good etc?

try swapping the tires front to rear and see if it changes the sound

This humming recently started on mine. It sounded to be on the drivers side front and is speed sensitive. I have replace the wheel bearing and the axle on the drivers side which seemed to reduce the noise but it is still noticible. When I shift the car to neutral around 60 mph and let it coast it sounds very similar to you having the car in the wrong gear and turning a lot of RPM's but the car coasts fine and the transmission is still working fine (knock on wood)?

Tires are only 15k old and just rotated them when I messed with the wheel bearing.

Try spinning the tires in drive with the car elevated above the ground, see what happens. That would eliminate tires as they are no longer in contact with the ground.
Stethoscope the differential bearing area, could be the cause.
