Ever have an engine knock before?

I have noticed that my car has a slight engine knock; I especially notice it when I am under the hood (obviously with it running). Just yesterday, however, I was talking to a friend of mine outside, when I walked up to my already started car; I heard an extremely prevalent knocking coming from under the car. It sounded as though it wasn't coming from the engine compartment too. It faded when I stood next to the car, but if I stepped back away from the car about three feet (on the driver side, near the rear door); it would echo out and could be heard clear as day. Any idea what this could be; if it is nothing to worry about or if it should get looked at? I don’t know if it occurs while driving (can’t hear it, or anything for that matter).
The car seems to drive fine and there aren’t check engine lights or anything. I have recently seafoamed, changed my oil and changed my transmission fluid.

Thanks!

Jack the car up and crawl under and give the exhaust a good "wiggle test". See if any of the exhaust hangers are lose or missing.

Hopfully it doesn't have a connecting rod knocking.
