Question Est. cost to replace RMS & Engine Mounts w/ Trans removed

The second tranny on my '02 TL w/ 125K miles started slipping the other day and the Acura dealer tech said it's a mechanical issue and needs to be replaced. Additionally, the tech and service manager recommended that I replace the engine mounts (front, rear and side) as well as the RMS (Rear Main Seal) bc it's cheaper to do it while the tranny is removed now and will cost much more later after they put the tranny back in. This recommendation seems resonable from what I've seen in multiple posts here.

Question... What is a reasonable price to pay Acura service for parts & labor to replace the RMS and engine mounts assuming the tranny is already removed?

For an acura tech (who has replaced many of these things) i wouldnt pay any more than 1 hour to 1 1/2hr tops total and thats being generous with the trans removed. Especially the front one that comes out with the lower sub frame. Rear main with the trans already out shouldnt take anymore than 10 min.

Thanks for your prompt response fsttyms1. I think the RMS parts are ~$10, any idea how much the engine mounts cost?

There is ZERO labour to remove the front mount when the tranny is removed. It's already removed with the subframe. They will already overcharge you labor for the tranny. So you might as well cut a deal to include that labor price for the rest of the mounts too.

Its the dealer they will charge you anyway. If they refuse to include at least the trans mount for free call acura cilent services.

~ Hey BoneHeadGolf, unless Acura is offering labor/parts discount under warranty of the 2nd tranny....bend over !!!
Try comparing an independent local tranny shop for better pricing for the tranny replacement package deal with a warranty.

First off, thanks to all who had replied; it's greatly appreciated.

No need to replace my transmission mounts, they were recently replaced before the tranny started to slip (I hope it's just a coincidence and I guess we'll never know). This will be my third tranny; the first two were covered under warranty but this one isn't. Service Manager said he would talk with Honda America rep to see if they'll help me out and keep my cost down. Not sure if the SM ever talked to the Honda America rep but he did offer to install a rebuilt tranny with all current updates for less than $1500 which is less than others had paid in some of the posts I've read but $1500 more than I think I should have to pay for a defective POS. I authorized them to put in the refurb and later that day, surprise surprise, SM suggested I put in new engine mounts and a RMS for an ADDITIONAL $1000 which I think is an insane amount to pay for parts and labor if the tranny has to be removed anyway. I don't mind paying for the parts and some labor however I don't think they should be double-dipping on the labor. Hence why I started this thread.

Rear main has to be removed and and replaced with the trans any way. Why would they charge extra labor for that? They are full of it. I wouldn't let them touch my car I would rather burn it then give them money.

Forget dealing with them and call acura cilent services, that isn't right. They are running up the bill buy putting in their system as "transmission replacement" and then on the same bill a "rear main replacement" which go together they shouldn't be 2 separate labor charges for basically the same job.

Hey BoneHeadGolf, if your mounts were recently replaced....skip doing them. Rear seal, try to negotiate a better price on the minimal labor involved. $1500 for a rebuilt updated tranny is a real bargain, IMO. Just make sure that ya get the warranty to go with it !!!
