Question engine stutter

I've found that occaisionally my car will stutter when coming to a stop. I slow down, I'm rolling, when I press the brake and the car actually stops going forward, thats when sometimes it stutters. What I mean is it shakes briefly for about half a second, then goes back to normal. Today it did it and immediately afterward I shifted into nuetral and it did it again. I was watching my AFC and I saw that I was at about 625 RPMs and they dropped to about 580 RPMs during the stuttering, then came back up to a more normal 630 or so. Normal idle for me is between 630 and 730.

Could this be a sign of the tranny faling apart, or is this normal? Thanks!

Uh-oh, sounds like bad news to me. Can you repeat it at will? Definitely have the deal check it out for you.

The one thing I would suspect is that one of your sensors is going out of whack, causing the ECU to overcompensate (providing too rich or lean a mixture because of a broken O2 sensor, say). By all means, take it to the dealer and have them perform a diagnostic.

I can't repro it consistently. Thing is, I just had a 15,000 mile service at the dealer, I would think they would've found the problem. I guess I'll wait and see if it worsens.

Nate,

I think its either the S*IT stock tires that I have, the S*IT stock brake pads or the MF'ing engine.

I know you upgraded tires and pads so that is not the problem. I know our cars tend to slide a bit and you can feel the brake pad go...rumble rumle before a complete stop. This is due to Craps ass stock tires. Even my snows dont do that!

I have even felt my car roll even when stepping on the damn *ss brakes. This must have to be a problem with the engine. As pointed out in previous posts, I think our car seems to have trouble whne idling.

BTW I got about 25,000k so far.

No no I don't think it's the tires, because I get that too, I thought it was the exhaust mufflers or something, but I'm not sure what it is. I know what you are talking about though....

Sounds like your engine might be misfiring. Engine misfire can be caused by many things, but something as simple as a loose spark plug can cause this problem. Also check anything in your ignition system.

either your engine is misfiring.. ask the dealer to check your sparkplugs. or, there is something loose, i think i had a friend who had a problem like that in his maxima... and they found that the cradle the engine is held up with was a little loose. took 15 mins to fix, some bolts they had to tighten.

I have had this happen to me twice but both times it was humid and wet outside. Most recently my auto driver side window button would not work and the srs, abs and tcs lights all came on, the srs is gone and the button works again but the abs and tcs lights are still on it all happend within hours and on a humid rainy day. i was thinking maybe condensation or something had made something get all wacked out but who knows.

I'm having a very similar problem. Only I noticed it when I was running with one notch before "E", and I was coming to a stop. My RPMs dropped to what looked like 250ish or so, the first line, and the car was shuddering for a bit, then they climbed back up to the appropriate RPM. After filling up with teh standard 91, it still was doing that. I seafoamed and changed the oil (i was about 1k overdue) in which my CEL and VSA light came on. The VSA light reset when I turned the car off, but I had to clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery.... After that no more lights, but the car still has that intermittent idling problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this? I would like to resolve this without having to go to the dealership, but if I have to... I will. Any help is appreciated!

BTW, Happy New Years (I had to throw it in there)

yea, when its really cold, and the car is started and for like 5 min it does it, after that goes away..
may be just too lean a mixture, cuz obviously at cold starts, the ratio is close to 1:1 at times for air/fuel..

Had the exact same thing happen to me a while back. Get some good fuel injector cleaner and add it to your tank and fill it up. Should take care of it. I used Lucas Fuel System treatment and it worked great. I put it into a tank and haven't had the idling problem since.

Can I put a full bottle of seafoam in 1/2 tank?

I have 1/2 tank left and want to know if I could put a full can of seafoam in.
Was going to do it the same time i was going to add it in the crank case but i'm not due for an oil change yet, gonna do that at the end of the summer.
