I was wondering what Engine oil weight should I use on my 2000 TL with 140K
I always use full syntethic castrol 10-40
and my mechanic told me to use 5-30 I live in CA and the weather is like 90F these days
Thanks in advance

i agree that the 3K intervals are BS...especially with the advent of synthetic oil. now, i schedule my oil change around my oil filter since that is the thing that needs to be changed before my oil does. BTW, i use mobil 5W-30 with a purolator oil filter.

Is the Purolator filter good for 15k? Are any of the other filters?

Ford has a very good article about the merits of 5w20:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/FFH/Why5W...sp?News=Rental
Anyways, the OP did not mention his location. One of the principal advantages of 5w-20 is the more rapid startup flow under ANY temperature in comparison to heavier weight oils, which can greatly reduce startup wear. The thinner oil can flow better and more dissipate heat more rapidly.

The Amsoil EaO is now the best filter you can buy on the market, followed by the K&N and Mobil 1 EP. These cost $15, $10, and $11, respectively. The K&Ns can be purchased on Amazon for about $9.50 each including shipping, provided that you purchase three at a time.
Even the orange can will last 15K in this engine since it's the OEM recommended interval, IIRC. Doesn't Honda recommend changing the filter at every OTHER oil change under normal driving conditions? All filters are built to meet/exceed OEM specifications and drain intervals.

Also, you can buy Mobil 1 EP, 5w30 from Walmart in a 5 quart jug. It's much cheaper than purchasing it from your neighborhood auto parts store. Cost is about $28 for the jug.
Pennzoil Platinum has also shown to be a decent synthetic oil, and recently, there have been many specials on this oil. It can generally be purchased for $3.00/qt after various mail-in rebates. You should be able to run this oil for 7500 miles with a good filter.

Autozone has a current sale on 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and Mobil Extened Performance filter for $30.
I bought a bunch of M1 5w20 last week, when I visited this week for something else, I noticed 5w20 are all gone.
www.AJUSA.com has the best price on K&N, $8.50 regular price for our car, free shipping if you order over certain amount. Subscribe their email alert and you will get email notice on promotions. I got 10% off 4 K&N plus free shipping couple months ago.

In modern cars like the TL, running a lower weight oil is the norm. The main reasons are that the VTEC motors need a certain weight of oil to function properly. Those of you who remember the Oldsmobile Quad 4 motors know that running the wrong weight of oil had dire consequqnces for the cam lifters; the same can happen with modern cars. The second reason why is mileage - the lower the oil viscosity, the lower the drag of friction on the bearings and lower windage off the crankshaft.
For synthetic oil, you can go 7,500 miles per change, assuming you have no leaks.
Wix and Carquest (Wix) oil filters are the best ones that you can get normally - unless you want to find a race filter with replaceable elements. Purolator and the such are garbage - don't use them.

Actually, I'm going to play devil's advocate today (and open a can of worms) and say that Honda engines in regions outside of NA spec either 10w30 or 10w40 weight engine oil.
Purolator filters are fine, especially their PureOne line-up. Oldsmobile Quad 4 engines run fine on GC 0w30, AFAIK.

Do you have to treat the engine in any specific way before going from conventional to synthetic?

Mobil 1 5W-30 for 2007 Acuras
FAIRFAX, Va.--Aug. 30, 2006--ExxonMobil today announced that Mobil 1 has been selected as the factory and service fill motor oil for the new 2007 Acura RDX luxury SUV.
Acura selected Mobil 1, the world's best selling synthetic motor oil, to meet the unique lubrication demands of the first-ever Acura turbocharged and intercooled engine. Due to its high-temperature
Based on its exceptional testing results, Acura recommends that RDX owners always use Mobil 1 5W-30, or an equivalent oil that meets the Acura HT0-06 standard. Not all synthetic oils meet the new Acura standard, and using the wrong oil in a high-performance turbocharged engine can lead to accumulated deposits in the engine, which reduces performance and causes engine wear.
