Engine oil
I just went in for a mini-service where I had them change my oil. This was about 200 miles ago. My question is, would it be ok to change out the oil this soon to add some higher quality oil, i.e. Mobil 1?

hey those OEM filters your buying are just re-painted Frams or Allied which is what fram is.If you like frams then your fine with a 10 US dollar OEM.
Its funny the Honda filter that are made and sold in Japan are great filter, some of the best. but the ones sold in us and canada are frams and many people that have invested the time to check out there quality turned off by their build.
I've cut one apart once to "see for myself" theres nothing but paper and cardboard where there should be steal and neoprene, that convinced me. But hey you can't beat that cool black grip paint they put on right?
oh ya to get this back on subject definetly throw some syn. oil in your baby its well worth it. as for wieght i go with 5w-30, mainly because i'm in hot dry stop and go freeway country. I've been using mobil 1 mainly because of its advailability, but i do think redline or amsoil IS better stuff.
what you wil deff notice the first time you start it after the oil chance is the motor cranks much faster at start-up its like going from an old weak battery to a new one.

I just check out the driver's manual and it said you need a special wrench to remove the oil filter. Obviously, the wrench is located "at your Acura dealership". Are they serious? Can I change the filter w/o that wrench?

You can do it with a regular oil wrench. The filter is by the passenger side wheel well. I was able to squeeze my wrench in there to get it out. Friend of mine recommended that I get a wrench because it makes the job a lot easier. Acura quoted me $14, but was out of stock. I can see how the wrench would help. Dont' forget the drain plug washer. I picked up 3 for a buck. Check this site out if you want to see what a "wrench" looks like

Hard to tell how long the original poster has had the car from his description(mini-service was 200 miles ago, but how many miles before the mini-service?).
Anyway, I have 200 miles on my car. Would the synthetic conversion be a wise thing so early? I'd like to get on it if it is at all beneficial.
Thanks

You may not need a wrench to take off the filter. The wrench ain't nothin but a standard oil filter wrench. I changed my oil for the first time on my TLs the other day. I bought my car slightly used and Acura did the last oil change.
I drove up my Rhino Ramps and used my creeper and to my amazement, the oil filter and drain are in the most logical spot. Not like my Accord where the filter is more difficult to get to.
Anyway, I just unscrewed the filter with my hand. Should be hand tight anyway. Then, used my Castrol GTX 5w-20. I've been using Castrol on all my cars for years, and never once had an engine related issue. I never use synthetic, only because I've had great luck not using it. To each is own, I just stick with what I know works great for me.
I hear good things about Mobil 1 though..go for it.

Big Rubber, I think you can wait until you're due until your first oil change. I waited until I was due for my first oil change and then switched to Mobil 1. My attitude was to get some "usage" out of the oil. Just my .02. Others here will be like "CHANGE IT NOW !!"

As for the oil filter wrench...
It is much handier to buy one of those end cap wrench adapters.
The dealer actually sent me to Pep Boys to buy mine. They sell several different sizes, but the one marked "H" fits the Honda/Acura stock filter. It fits great onto a 3/8" drive socked wrench. Use a short extension and you can't go wrong. No hassle with a conventional oil filter wrench slipping etc. Plus the ratchet action of your socket wrench lets you position everything wherever you want. I highly recommend picking up one of these "oil filter sockets" for the easiest change possible.
The only issue might be if you tend to use different sized filters from time to time. I use the stock filter (even if it may be a POS) so the adapter fits perfectly every time. They usually have them all on display at Pep Boys so you can take your filter into the store and find the size that fits.
Good luck! I waited for 3,000 miles with my break-in oil and then went for the Mobil super-syn 5w30 and it purrs smooth and sweet... Then it GROWLS smoothly in VTEC!!

How Should I Break In The Engine?
All NSXs get a shakedown run around Honda's test track in Japan after they are built.
[A/H] The early pre-production cars were run at high speed around the test track. We learned early that the engines
didn't like it. Now the factory doesn't go over 5000 RPM when they run the cars around the track.
We also put in the owners manual that they should not rev over 5000 RPM for the first 500 or 600 miles.
What About "Break-In" Oil?
[BV] I asked him again about the break in oil and he said that he didn't know the specifics of what was in it. But at an Acura school they did tell him it was "break in oil" and should be left in the engine for "a couple of thousand miles."
