OK, I started up my 1999 TL today and was letting it idle while the engine warmed up and I have my hand on the steering wheel. I could feel the engine misfire and was like
So I put my foot on the pedel a little and raised the RPM up to around 1,200 and I could still feel it every once in a while. It seems that it only happens in between 700-1300 RPM... This has me very spooked and scared SH|TLESS because I don't have a factory warranty like most of you...![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
My question is... could this be because I put 89 octane gas instead of 91 octane gas??? This really sucks because I still have almost a full tank and I think it's the gas but i'm not sure...
I wish I could just drain the damn gas out like oil
:wow: But I think i'm gonna have to live with it this week and hope my baby TL doesn't die...
can anyone with the lowdown on this chime in? Does misfiring engine do anything bad besides waste gas?? Unfortunately I have not found anywhere in Arizona that has higher octane gas than 91

Check to make sure all the spark plug coil packs are secured. There is an allen that holds each one on.
Either that or check your plugs. Sounds like one might be bad.

I checked all the spark plugs and all the connecters. I think it may be the gas though... Hopefully. I wont ever buy anything but 91+, I thought chevron has like the cleanest gas, Hopefully i'm wrong and next tank it will be fine.
I'm gonna go drive it around and burn up some gas...
Is there any additives I can put in so it doesn't misfire?? I'm thinking about buying some octane booster from schucks/checkers. Do you think octane booster could help? I guess it couldn't hurt.

too late, I went out for an hour and ran the car hard, almost to half a tank, I got some OutLaw octane booster and drove for about 10 minutes more.
The octane booster didn't help at all. I'm leaning away from the idea that the gas is bad and more towards something electrical in my engine.
I think it may be the ignition system coil pack. I had a problem on my old accord where it did basically the same thing only at highway speeds(40-60 MPH) and they replaced it for like $80 and it was all better.
If I had a warranty I would defenetly be at the dealer right now...![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I just hope it doens't cost more than $100 to fix. I may drive a TL but right now i'm poor boy...![Mad](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif)
thanks for the help NSX

It can't be the gas because the octane number only matters if your car is under load. If you were just idling and your car feels like it is misfiring, then it has something to do with electrical. Either a bad spark plug, coil, or a sensor. Good luck.
