Engine Cleaning

Is there some type of product that i can use to clean my engine, it's really dusty and it irritates me when i look in it. Is the Engine watertight? if so could i just spray the car down?

there are many good spray on degreaser/cleaners, then you just hose the engine down (as little pressure as possible)

I was also interested in this....I read something about saran-wrapping the alternator. Is this necessary?

To be on the safe side, as I always did, use plastic bag to cover your brake reservoir, power steering reservoir, alternator, (I never covered engine and transmission dipstick, but with the high pressure spray you may want to cover them too.), as well as sensors like fsttyms1 said.

Ok, where exactly are these sensors and brake reservoir located at in the engine bay??? A pic with circles around each thing would be nice!!I also wana clean my engine bay up too. So just use my hose and guide where the water is pouring onto?? Do i need to buy a specific ENGINE DEGREASER or is it just plain old degreaser??

I have done it many times - my engine with 94k miles looks good as new...anyway I have never covered anything up - you dont have too.

the best thing is Simple Green cleaner. Just spray the hell out of the engine with that and let it soak for 5-10 minutes, then I just used a regular hose and rinsed it off. If you do it at a car wash, just use low pressure and dont get too close to the engine. If your engine is real dirty, you may have to do it 2 times - but that stuff really works great.

I have always been worried about cleaning my engine bay but finally did it a few weeks ago. I just covered up the battery terminals and covered the alt with a plastic bag, sprayed on some degreaser and went at it with a brush. they I just used my pressure washer to remove everything out. I used my leaf blower to dry everything up and then applied some dressing. it took about 2 hours to do everything.

You really dont have to cover any thing. Just use common sense on where you spray the water and try not to use Super high pressure. every thing under the hood is able to get wet

ya you should try to keep water off the filter. when I had the V2 intake, I just pushed a few small towels down around the filter from the top to keep water from running down and that worked just fine.

but just like fsttyms1 said - dont use high pressure and you are fine. everything under the hood is made to get wet and be fine.

What he said. I clean my engine bay once a week. Just spray with any cleaner and wash it down with water. Just dont over spray the alt. I also use that engine bay greasy stuff that dealers use to makes the bay look new .
