Exclamation Eliminating torsion bars?

I'm looking to modify the hole where my 8in subwoofer was but I am fully aware that the '02 TLs have a torsion bar attached to the metal where the sub sat on. Has anyone found a way to eliminate the torsion bars with a modified trunk lift? Just looking for suggestions because I'm trying to fit an 10' speaker that would sit lower than the factory sub.

Thanks in advance

Hopefully someone with better search skills than me will chime in. Several years ago, someone here posted a diy with air springs from mcmaster-carr, or graingers.

I used a strut like you would use for the hood to lift and hold my trunk open when it had the spoiler attached.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Mcmaster-carr actually calls them gas springs. They come in lengths from about 4" to 3', in forces from 15lbs up to over 500lbs.

Where did you order your strut from? Please provide the part number too if you still have it. I need something to keep my trunk up due to the spoiler.
