eBay CAI for 03 TL-S

Yes, I know I am suppose to buy an AEM or Injen CAI but I really cant afford them right now since I will be using my money for headers and pulleys instead, which i've read should give more gains than CAI. Ima get K&N filter and use one of these piping from ebay. Main difference I see is the difference in aluminum used... 6061 vs 6063... There arent a lot of choices for TL-S... anyone bought these yet? Can you share some advices on fitting and quality please... I know that i will get what I pay for but looking for inputs to help me decide which one would be a better purchase...

6061 ALUMINUM

You don't necessarily have to get the name brands. All CAI piping do the same thing. The filter is more important.

Many members have ran ebay CAI's with no issue.

And I think 6061 Al is stronger. Also depends on how thick the piping is.

Unfortunately, neither has info on thickness.

the tube itself looks more or less the same for each kit, as well as the hardware included, so i think either one really. i guess go for the cheaper one. like handycapt said, the filter is the most important component. tubing is pretty much the same all around, for the most part i think. i bought a cheap lil eBay one and threw a k&n on it, and it works/sounds great. sure, injen and aem are great kits, but this is a very reasonable, cost-effective alternative.

I guess the aluminum used does not matter that much? also, do we have to get a specific k&n cone filter or as long as the inlet fits? im guessing 3inches? do you have a part number for the cone filter you used???

the aluminum wont matter that much, since this is not a load bearing or pressure sustaining part. its simply there to guide the cold air from the filter up into the throttle body. as for the specific k&n cone used, it all depends in your pipe diameter. the first kit you posted the link to mentions a 3" filter, so i can only assume its a 3" pipe. mine on the other hand is a 2.5". the rubber couplings supplied with the kit, as well as the rubber throat on the filter will usually flex enough to make up for the .5" difference. i've seen ppl put a 3" cone on a 2.5" pipe and vice-versa (although the vice-versa is not easy, or reccomended). i know autozone and advance autoparts both have a decent assortment of k&n cone filters. just pick one up and see if it fits. if not, exchange it. or just bring the tube in with you.

Does anyone know where to get better pipes than the links i posted for 03 TL-S (CHEAP ONES LESS THAN $100)? I dont wanna overlook other products.... would you also agree than getting these long ebay CAI is better than purchasing short RAMS because longer CAIs have access to colder/denser air... ?

Like everyone said, there is very little difference from pipe to pipe, but its all about which filter you use, dont skimp on filters.

trying to find JUST the pipe is gonna be tough. i was trying to do the same thing for a while. i even called K&N and AEM and Injen to see if they could sell me just a pipe, not a whole kit. but the pipes themselves cost almost as much as a full kit! finally i just bucked and got the cheap-shit eBay kit and threw the k&n on it. it's really just gonna be easier and cheaper for you to do that. go for it man.
