Dynolicious on iPhone
Dynolicious on iPhone
Hi all!
iPhone owners rejoice! Dynolicious is an App that uses the iPhone's accelerometer to measure vehicle dynamics. For $12.99 that is.
Below is my quick review after ONE run (cuz it's late at night and I'm sleepy :P)
Calibration does not work (doesn't even register first vertical calibration)
However, doing an uncalibrated run still returned fairly close to magazine claimed times.
02 Acura TL-S
magazine claimed 0-60: 6s
magazine claimed 1/4 mi: 16s
Dynolicious 0-60 (w/out launch): 7.53s
Dynolicious 1/4 mi (w/out launch): 15.77s
Suggestions:
- Would be nice to be able to save the visual Dyno chart with results.
- A bit more clarification regarding "Peak Horsepower" and "Wheel Horsepower"
- Instructions regarding Rollout settings
Awaiting update!!
Is it worth $13 bucks? I figured I've bought dumber things for more... so why not :P

re: calibration
Thought I'd address this before someone else does :P
Granted the calibration doesn't work (yet), going into Skidpad mode reveals that my phone's current calibration returns a 'centered' reading of
Accel: 0.95g
Brake: 1.00g
Left: 1.05g
Right: 0.98g
Which isn't too bad.

This sounds interesting, but I wonder if there's any way to verify those numbers are correct. Does the app save the data it records? If so, is there any way to hook it up to a computer to view the data?
So far nope. First release, and only appeared on Apple App store 6/23/08. Seems to be generating quite a bit of talk amongst car forums... so hopefully the company'll further develop the app.

14.8 second car. BUT If you dont know how to launch it, it can easily be a 15 second car.
typo on the first post.
claimed
0-60 in 6s
1/4 mi in 15s
In it's day (2001) those were impressive =)
and as said, I didn't launch, as I only wanted to see if the silly $13 app would even register vehicle dynamics.
Fun toy regardless =)

you kno what, i've actually had this app for awhile on my iTouch and im pretty impressed with this app.
i need to take it for more funs as i want to see an average whp and want to see the gains with the ATLP exhaust that i will have soon hopefully.

i wasn't sure if it was just my phone that couldn't get the calibration or everyones. but it seems like a common problem so thats a bit of a relief. i also checked the dynolicious website they said there should be a update soon

you enter in your cars info.. such as weight. and drivetrain lost percentage.. 0 for calculate whp..
i don't kno much about itouch/iphone so somebody can probably chime in and explain better than i.

8% loss I can't see ANY vehicle doing - unless you are calculating loss based on dyno numbers of an underrated car. For example the new GT-R dynos WAY over what Nissan rates it as. That doesn't mean it has less drivetrain loss.
HP #'s are a fickle game of "who knows". You change the weather, the dyno, the humidity, what you had for breakfast, etc - and you'll put down different numbers each time. It's where the term "Dyno Queen" comes from. So using a program like this isn't any different. It's a neat parlor trick and if you did several runs and averaged them you'd come pretty close. It's not worth it if you're going to do 1 run and then stop using it, but if you want to do before/after comparisons of mods it will give you a pretty reasonable comparison.
consider 25 to 30% drivetrain efficiency loss for FF AT.
Looking at my numbers from last nights run... My peak whp was 197.
197 x 1.3 = 256.1
Which is not only pretty darn close... But generous for my broken beauty of 147k miles.
(replying on iPhone sucks.... I'll write more later)
