Dynoing car for first time

We are having a local meet here this weekend and we got a Dyno rent out for the day. I was thinking since dyno pulls were going to be so cheap, I would do a couple with the TL. I have read a few posts telling people just to Dyno in 3rd gear. Why is this?

I guess I am a Dyno n00b.

You want the gear that's closest to 1:1 ratio. Third gear in our cars is 1.02:1 and you will need this number once your car is on the dyno to correct the numbers.

Awesome.

Anything I should be aware of / do before the Dyno?

Not really. Just make sure the engine is running properly, and fully warmed up. Make sure to tell the guy running the dyno to use SportShift, because it needs to be locked into 3rd gear. Otherwise, have fun!! And let us know what your car puts down.

You will also have to turn off VSA - or you won't get above about 3k rpm.

yeah, that sounds like everything. When I ran mine, it sucked so bad. I didn't have anytime to do any research because it was just a spur of the moment thing. Then the guy running it told me that I needed to run in 4th gear because that was the closest 1:1. Well, as I later found out he was wrong. On that pull, I put down 200 hp and haven't been able to run it again. I hope to get some better numbers next time. Good luck and make sure you post results.
