Dyno'ed at 179 HP

I've got a 1999 TL-P (53K Miles) with Comptech headers and Icebox. 179 HP at the wheels seems low. What do you guys think? Do I have a problem elsewhere? Or is 179HP reasonable?

wheel horse power is different from actualy engine horse power, i think 179 is reasonable.

What puzzles me is that if stock is 225 HP at the crank, add around another 20-25HP for the headers and intake and I should be around 245-250 at the crank. If I'm at 179HP at the wheels, that means that I've got a loss of 65-70HP through the drvetrain. That's 26-28% loss

ouch yeah that seems a lil low man...
but that 225 crank hp is an average number. For every 5 TLs they put out 2 will make more, 1 will make exactly that, and 2 will make less..

on an AT 25% loss is about right to the wheels..

so, you're probably right around 240HP at the crank if the dyno shows 179.. it does seem a bit low tho with headers and intake..

Wonder if I'm getting excess slipage through the tranny? I don't know of any way to measure that. Any ideas?

A stock 2002 TL-P puts out 175.8 horsepower at the wheels...http://www.injen.com/webpages/testin...es/rd_1660.jpg I'm surprised that an Icebox and Comptech Headers only gave you several additional ponies.

You have brought up an interesting question. Please let us know when you found the answer. I've ordered headers for my 99 TL as well, and I certainly hope I don't get 8-10 extra ponies for all the $$ I've spent!

On a side note, have you tried resetting the ECU and tightening the throttle cable (not sure if this is correct)? Perhaps this may help to make your TL more responsive?
