dw-1 is thinner, and part synthetic. z1 has been discontinued. dw-1 is backwards compatible with z1.

i currently have dw-1 in my tranny, and iv noticed much improved cold weather shifting, overall quicker and smoother shifting, along with cooler temps under the hood. i have only positive things to say about dw-1.

although i would not use dw-1 in a tranny that is already slipping, as it will most likely get worse after some time.

if its already slipping, there is nothing oil would do to help~

you may still find a few quarts of z1 on an import parts store shelf
otherwise honda/acura dealers are sold out and carry the new stuff DW-1
Its a buck or 2 cheaper at honda for the exact same stuff

I have a 92 Accord EX with 235k. (Peeking out behind the TL in my avatar). The trans had a slight shudder when going into second.
Did a fluid change a few weeks ago and the shudder is gone.
In my opinion whatever Honda spent to reengineer their trans fluid was worth every penny (especially in warranty repairs!).

RC99 did you use DW1 when you changed the fluid?

Hi,
Yes I put in just a touch under 3 qts DW-1.
I was going to cycle through 9 qts in 3 more changes if there wasn't any drop in performance. That one change made the trans shift more precisely and the shudder is gone. I will do the remaining changes to evacuate the remaining fluid.
Keep you posted.
My 99 TL shifts better than new with DW-1 - I bet/hope everyone says the same.
