DRL and Compass in Rear View Mirror

The 2002 Tl has added 6 CD changer, Fog lights, Memory Seats, a 260 hp engine in the S type with larger wheels and tires which are all welcome additions, now why not go all the way and add DRL and a compass in the rear view mirror. The DRL (daytime running lights) are standard on Canadian cars and would be a safety item here plus we would get an Insurance policy discount for having them. The compass is a relatively inexpensive item to add.

Yes the DRL might have been a good idea. As far as the compass, they have a Navigation Sys.

the DRL shouldv'e been standard here since the highbeam part of the headlamps we're made specifically for DRL's...as you can tell in the design. as for Compass, I wouldn't mind...I would like the feature. The only problem is if I replaced it with the larger mirrors.

that's what i am upset at...
although my car has DRL (i live in Canada)

but no compass??? and the trip computer disappoints me too...

the new Camry has compass, trip computer(not odeometer) it calculates the gas mileage and stuff....

so they should add those stuff into the next yr model

My Navi has a compass built right in, so that's my indash electronic compass. Too bad, they don't have that in Canada.

I'm not personally fond of DRL's but it would have been nice if it was an option so those who wanted them could have 'em.

Ray, please don't slap a hugh broadway mirror over the stock mirror. It defeats the automatic dimmer feature, which is something you'll grow to love. I suppose you'll be finding out pretty soon.

We have a better solution to those highly-irritating-high-beam-in-your-face DRLs in the southern US for dusk, rain, etc:

TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS! Duh.

GA law requires lights on in the rain. Just twist the stalk two clicks after putting on your seatbelt.

To save money, GM used to supply DRLs to most of their line until they got enough complaints to cease! Now they run the parking lights in front. Even at half power, high beams blind oncoming traffic. We already have one useless "safety" feature with the third brake light, thank you very much.

The GPS provides not only compass direction, but altitude, latitude and longitude! My guess is that Alpine's mapping service provider hasn't done Canada yet.

sparky57, Please don't say that in such a mean way..hehe. Oh yeah, the third brake light is actually for SUV's, vans..anything high so they can see you brake.

I guess I should have used some smiley faces to indicate my amusement. Some Canadians take it way too seriously.
Speaking of Canadians, I recently traveled to Toronto on business. What a nice city! Naturally, my rental Pontiac Good Prix had DRLs. I found that sometimes at night I would forget to turn on the lights because the DRLs were illuminating ahead of me.

When I bought my TL, the dealer wanted to know if I wanted to spend another 50 bucks to get the "blinking third light" feature. Huh? Some propeller head has somehow deemed that a blinking brake light is somehow more effective. I admit I see them around and find it counterproductive - at first glance, it looks to me like a turn signal. Then it looks like they need to get their faulty wiring fixed!
