Driving on steel lines!!
So I wrote in a previous post that I was getting this weird metallic noise that was coming from my wheels. This whole time, I thoguht it was coming from my new brakes cuz I pretty much started hearing it after I got them installed. Well, this morning I took my car to the tire shop to get my tires rotated (I usually rotate them every 3000 miles). When the guy took off my tires, he showed me one tire that had the inner edge split apart almost all the way around and steel lines poking through. One other tire had a small area of split rubber with protruding steel lines. So that 'metallic noise' was me driving around on steel lines for the past month!!!
Still baffled as to how my tires didn't blow out... I was wishing I had my dig cam today cuz these tires were truly thrashed!
Ok now my questions... if I can remember correctly, I have had these tires on for 24,000 miles. My tires are the Yokohama Parada Spec 2's, which boast a tread rating of 300AA. Does anyone know if 24,000 miles is decent for that tread rating, or did I wear them out too fast... probably because of my camber....
I dug up my alignment figures from right after I lowered my car (~30,000 miles), and here they are:
left front camber/toe: -0.3 degrees/0"
right front camber/toe: -1.0 degrees/0"
left rear camber/toe: -1.5 degrees/0.06"
right rear camber/toe: -1.5 degrees/0.06"
thanks!

24k for a 300 isnt real good if your not hard on them. which tires where worn out? the front specs look good, the rears look a little on the neg side but the toe is what worries me. the toe will wear tires faster than camber!!! oh and yokos are the fastest wearing tire i have ever seen. the compound is sooo soft, but i would still get the toe adjusted!

Well all my tires were worn out because I have been rotating them religiously every 3000 miles... so just distributed the wear evenly. But I'm pretty sure it's my rear wheels that are causing the uneven wear due to the negative camber... aren't the rear wheels usually the problem with our TL's?
Anyoen have suggestions on good camber kits?

I think it's your camber. The min/max for the rear is +/-1 and yours is -1.5; too much neg camber. You need to get that corrected; if there's not enough adjustment left, you'll need a camber adjustment kit (like an Ingalls or SPC).

Well when I got my car aligned after my springs, the camber was noted to be -1.5 degrees in both rear wheels, and apparently they coudln't fix it cuz after adjustment it was still -1.5 degrees... so Ingalls or SPC huh? What's the diff between the two? I'm really ignorant on this topic...

Alright, did a lil research, and it seems like the SPC camber kit is the quality one that a lot of people have been getting... anyone know where I can get one at a good price??
thanx!

300 rating at your mileage is indeed too soon to need new tires. The last set of Goodyear RSA's I bought for my 94' Talon had a rating of 240 and lasted over 67,000 miles and still had some treat left with no steel belts showing. The again that car is over 800 lbs. lighter than the TL.

My buddy just got two new ES100's because he never rotated his tires ever since he got them and put about 7000 miles on them. Not to mention someone hit his car in the driver's side front wheel, giving it like -3.0 camber. He drove like that for like 3 weeks, and after finally getting new tires, he showed me the one he had. Not only was the belt visible, but it was also worn out. I pressed on the tread (or what's left of it) and it felt like there was maybe like 3 miles of life on the tire.
I have never in my life seen a tire so worn out. Geez.

I bought my camber kit from IAP direct
I bought the following:
#67090 - Rear Camber (up to 4.0 degrees) - $149
#67320 - Front Camber (1.5-3.0 degrees) - $169
It doesn't look like you need adjustments for your front, but just incase.

I thought I read somewhere that SPC makes two diff kinds of camber kits... but the IAP site only lists one. Is part #67090 the right one to purchase? Thanks.
