Drivers side window switch broke.
Drivers side window switch broke.
Leaving for work this morning, rolled driver's side window down, went to roll it back up and the switch apparently broke, it just flops up, further up than it use to, and doesn't engage the window motor. (02TLS)
Just had to leave the car in the driveway and take the truck to work. Won't get a chance to check out the switches until after work.
Anyone know what I'm in for? Can just the one window switch be replaced, or do I have to get the whole window window switch panel with all 4 switches?
Any chance I can just put a spring back in place or some thing to fix the existing switch?
Thanks.

Until you find the time to get the parts and fix it, you can temporarily use another window switch so you can at least drive the car.
Pull off the door panel and rewire that broken switch so you can use one of the rear window switches. You can easily locate with a voltmeter which wire to cut/splice.
The panel pops off with a flathead screwdriver wrapped in tape, and carefully used to pop each of the plastic push pins around the panel. But first remove the 2 screws, one at the door handle and the other under the armrest. Also remove the black triangular cover at the mirror by first grabbing its front corner (at front side of car) and sliding it up towards the ceiling to unlatch a plastic hook. Then pull the back end outwards towards you to pop out the metal clip. The door panel lifts up after that and you need to unplug all the connectors.

If a your window switch mechanically broke, DO NOT attempt to repair by forcing the button back in place. Once the button pops out, the copper contacts are easily disrupted from their alignment. Because most window switches usually take on full current of the window motor itself, a high amount of amperage is passed through these now disrupted contacts that can easily short between each other causing BIG problems. Even more so, window switches simply reverse polarity to change from being the window down to back up again. That means both power and ground are going through the same contacts are arranged very close to one another. Again, perfect recipe for disaster and ive seen many door harnesses melted because people trying to pop buttons back in the rocker holder. It's easier to purchase a new switch (or even used on eBay) and be done with it.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Too easy..... panel needs to come off to remove some hidden screws that hold the switch assembly in the panel. Not a terribly difficult job.
