drill firewall for 1/0 guage power wire

Has anyone drilled a hole in the firewall to run 1/0 guage power wire? I was just thinking of makeing the hole above the gas peddle bigger with a unibit but later realized that will not work out because a couple of things are in the way. The firewall grommet that I plan on using requires a 1-1/8" hole. I just dont know where the best place to drill would be.

Isn't that hole above the gas peddle big enough for 1/0?

I noticed (on an 03 anyway) that there is a flap of insulation to the left of the brake peddle, my guess that is where the clutch would go if our cars had one. There is no grommet there, but there is an indention to start a hole. Anyone know if this is a sure spot where I can drill an 1-1/8 inch hole w/o jacking anything up?

I put 8 guage thru there, I think that probably the 1/0 guage can fit too.... meaning the spot yield2k is talking about.

Have you tried that hole that yield2s is talking about?

I have 4 gauge going through there... I would believe that 1/0 gauge will fit no problem...

It's not big enough ... believe me ... i am trying very hard to take the path of less resistance ... is that an oxymoron?

what are you doin running 1/0 anyway? maybe you should rethink it. If your drawing that much current it would prob be better to have another batt in the trunck w/something like 2/4awg going to it.
That must be a MONSTER system

I am tryng to use a firewall gromment that requires a 1-1/8 inch hole (streetwire 1/0 water tight grommet) ... that will not fit in that hole above the gas peddle.

yeah

yeah; that must be a monster system; what are you plans? (curiousity ); It would be interesting to know? Are you running the 1/0 guage wire into a power distribution block and spliting it to a few 8 guages for multiple amps? I was considering doing that in my old Legend but scrapped the project due to time constraints;

Note; would it be better to run 1 1/0 guage power cable to the trunk and then distribute it into 2-3 8 guage wires from there or would it be best to do 2-3 seperate 8 guage runs to the battery? would this accomplish the same thing? Not an electricity expert although I do know quite a bit.

Just something to think about; (throwing ideas on the table)

with distance you lose voltage .... heavier gauge wire minimizes losing voltage. I plan on running 1/0 to streetwires's positive/negative combo block pictured here with 8 guage running to caps and amps. right now only running 5-6 year old alpine amps that i had in the closet (models 3547, 3548, 3549). Later I'll upgrage to JL audio's 1000/1 and either 2 450/4 or 2 300/4.

Yeah im at the 1/0 guage decision too . I have the W7 and the 500/1 but now i want highs so I am getting the 300-2 jl amp the mb quarts. I might just run two 4 guage wires from front to back.

i've run 1/0 gauge wire in many different cars, inclding my maxima, a prelude, accord v6, a newer maxima, and a few other cars and usually i run it on what ever side the battery is on, somewhere left of the brake pedal, that way there is no interference with brakeing or gas....i also try to go as high up as i can, b/c i don't want any water being around where i drilled the hole...

I drilled a hole for a 4 gauge wire above and to the right of the gas pedal. There was a little of insulation there. I did this almost a year ago, and have experienced no problem at all. You should be able to drill a hole to fit whatever size of wire you are wanting to run. I am in the process of putting together a new system for my TL and will definitely have to go with a larger gauge. You might want to get one of those rubber (sorry I can't remember the specific name) things that goes around the wire where it goes through the metal to prevent wear and damage.
