Drifting?

Drifting is very different and starts with power sliding as a technique but involves unsettling the suspension to cause the car to slide in a controlled fashion.
FWD cars can "drift" technically but cannot sustain a drift. Whats those guys in the video are doing is on a straight road and again technically isn't considered drifting since going around a corner is a drift.
1 minute in, Keiichi Tsuchiya takes the car into a corner and slides the car around. Thats an example of the suspension geometry being upset. The car oversteers and he corrects the slide by countersteering.
Just basic driving techniques can create oversteer, lift off oversteer, clutch kick (rwd), Swedish flick. Its down to driving technique.
That being said should you drift your FWD car. Probably not since it serves no purpose. It does happen in autocross, I've had my car get crazy going through a slalom during an autox event.
Here's a great video to check out!

Anytime. There were some great arcade games I used to play to get the whole thing down. Cheaper than the real thing. Forza for example is a great simulator to figure out how all those elements can tie in to create a drift. Started there, then tried it on the real thing when I was comfortable. Managed to drift a RWD suv on a slick road. Its just down to technique.
Watching people trying to drift mustangs and high horsepower cars makes me laugh cause its freaking dangerous if you don't understand the basics and its easy as shit to get the fundamentals down on a simulator. After that its down to driver experience. Counter steering fast and learning what to do in a mid-engine car vs a front or rear engine machine is important. Drifting an NSX for example would be very different than an S2K or Mustang.
Its pretty fun to study and see where people go wrong on the track or autox for that matter.
