The dreaded PO420 Check engine light
Hi all,
I'm new to acurazine. I have been battling the catalytic converter issue for a few years now. At 75K, I had the cc replaced by Acura and it fell under the maintenance recall issue at that time. At about 175K, the issue came back and I had the cc replaced by my mechanic who used an aftermarket cc. Fairly soon thereafter, it came back again, and my mechanic was able to replace the part using the 1 year warranty. However, the issue has still not gone away. I battle this every year prior to inspection and we manage to do enough to keep the engine light off and clear all the codes to pass inspection. There has never been an issue of performance or emissions related to this replacement. I've finally reached the point where we can't do enough to clear the light to pass inspection. It looks like the O2 sensors are working properly. I've had someone tell me that the aftermarket cc just doesn't quite do enough and even though there are no emissions issues, it still doesn't work properly enough to not cause the PO420. But an OEM CC is going to cost anywhere from $500+ to $700+ plus labor. Does anyone have experience with this and has figured out how to get it fixed at a reasonable cost?

It may be the cat, OR it could very well be the rear o2 isnt reading correctly causing the code. Try replacing the O2 sensor and resetting the light to see if the problem persists.
