downshift abnormal
downshift abnormal
This just happened to me this weekend. I was trying to cut 3 lanes on a freeway exit after a merge, there were cars coming so I had to speed up. As I pushed on the gas padle (not floor yet, almost), I could hear and see (RPM) the engine roar immediately, but the car wasn't moving. It took 2 secs before I could feel the car dashed forward and it was closed to 6000rpm. The tranny shouldn't be slipping because the car accelarate like crazy. Could it be the computer is slow to react to my sudden rush??
Not sure what you are driving but my TL-S did that once when I wanted to accelerate from about 45 while in D5. when I hit the gas it felt like major bog, downshifted too far (second gear, I think, engine was screaming), and we finally got going after what seemed like an eternity. If that is what you are describing, others have seen it before.
It seems to be combination the computer is not well programmed for.
To avoid the possibility in the future I use SS so I can manually select the gear I want. When I'm done I put it back in D5. It's like having a stick when you need it.

Thanks for the reply. I was going around 50mph and decided to speed up. I know I could use SS, but sometimes in a split second, your first response is to step on the gas. I guess I will use SS next time.
Again, it does NOT happen every time. It has only happened to me once. You are right, in a split second situation you just mash the gas, same here. Unfortunately, even with all of the technology available, it's still an automatic and the engineers can't program it for every combination.
It's a great car unfortunately, not perfect. Oh well, I love mine.

I have had this happen on every automatic car I have ever driven. Modern automatic transmissions are marvels of engineering, but they just aren't smart enough to know what you're trying to do in every situation.
Heh, my first response is to grab that knob and downshift twice. That'll get you what you're looking for
