Question Double Din Kit for Aftermarket Head Unit Question

Which kit looks closest to our factory dash.

I heard Metra makes one... could someone supply the Metra Model Number or some other options?

Is there a paint color that we can buy to match our dash?

If so, pleas tell us where to get it and the color or a place that can match it.

there is no double din kit. there is only a single din kit made my metra. if you want double din, it has to be custom fabricated.

yup

only single din.

but if you go that route get teh metra kit and sand it smooth to match, start with 220, then 400 wet then go to 600 wet. then 800 to 1000 wet. the finish will be really close. sloser than paint. the factory dash has a small flake in it, so no paint will truly match

How feasable would it be to cut the divider on the Metra kit to creat a DD version? Would it eliminate any structural support or anything?

Question

I hear that the stock dd bracket is in there and can be used... It's just the front part that's tough. Is this correct?

A double din will bolt up to the factory brackets. I just had an Eclipse 7301 double din in my 2000 TL. But, you will have to make a trim ring to go around it. That is really where the problem lies. Making something that looks factory and fits factory.

i got double din in my car, i used the factory brackets, what i did is used a factory mounting bracket from a suzuki grand vitara, screw the decks into the other set of holes that our acura bracket don't use. then put the whole thing in and used a abs plastic to build the trim, because the grand vitara brackets has a 90 bend at the end with 4 holes at the corner, the abs plastic can be screw on or glue on, and sand to factory smooth, i build another bracket sandwich between the deck and grand vitara bracket so it extend up from the deck and hold the factory notepad assembly, i did not sand mine because i got a carbon fiber dash kit, this is probably best way to do it because it used factory holes.

i will try find some pics

How can you tell? It's too dark.

Which head unit and eq do you have?

Oh... I can see it now... That does look cool... But, for those of us that want to stay with the factory look...

I'm probably going to get a single din DVD player... Then I might get another single din digital EQ.

So, will I have to get a custom face/dash done while I use the factory brackets? If so, what is the closest/easiest/cheapest way to achieve this goal?

I really don't want to sand shit... I'd rather paint it or use a material that's right on the money. I saw an acrylic that looked close.

That's a very nice setup, but I'm looking for something more factory looking.

I'm trying to figure out what it would look like if there was a pocket in the top din or what it would look like if I put the new head unit in the middle.

Question

Ok, check it out...

I need my head unit to sit lower than the top din because I have a factory navi screen that the hu screen will overlap.

What if I bought the metra kit... took it somewhere and asked them to customize me one that has the pocket on the top...

Is this the way to go? What material should be used? What are my options?

There has to be something out there to color match...

is a mini display for my alpine alarm, it display the alarm's info, such as the last ten times it is tripped, what sensor is faulty (check hood, trunk, doors, radar, etc) and i can program the alarm functions on and off using that mini screen, and normally it shows day and time. you see at first i have a apexi logo from vafc bracket, later i found a actual apexi emblem from one of the apexi electronic piece to cover the 3 stock clock button openings at the left side

I dont think painting the dashboard would be the best idea. Cracking, etc. Your best bet would probably be just to swap everything out for the black interior but that's gonna run you a pretty penny.

you would have to geta upholstery die type paint, you would be better off finding a black one in the junk yard

just FYI, you shouldn't dye or paint airbag covers (on steering wheel and dashboard).....if they've been pianted and deploy in an accident, it will send shards of paint thru the occupants face and eyes....ouch!!!
