Dont Use Zmax

I PUT THIS PRODUCT IN MY CAR AFTER MY MAJOR SERVICE TO SEE IF I CAN GET MORE POWER IN THE ENGINE, TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT MY NEW NGK IRIDIUMS OVERSPARKED, MY FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OUT, OPEN UP THE PISTONS TO REMOVE THE ZMAX, AND CHANGE ALL THE FLUIDS IN MY CAR.

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm

THIS IS THE FORMAL COMPLAINT ON THE ZMAX COMPANY

When I got my car

the dealer told me never add any of those additives to the vtec - it would damage it.

Thumbs down

Yeah, I had a bad experience with that stuff.

I had a '95 Dodge Intrepid (3.5L) that routinely got >24 mpg. After adding Z-max, my mileage immediately dropped to ~21 mpg and never improved; who knows what that crap did to the engine.

My 2000 TL-P replaced that Mopar and Mobil 1 is the only oil that goes in it. I don't mess with additives anymore.

Ah, the miracles in a can. Rule 1: Liquid additives and snake oil will not fix problems with a car. Avoid all of that crap like the plague. Now, I am not bashing every additive out there. Note that techron and other fuel cleaner additives do work as described however they were not meant to "fix" a problem; rather they are on the market to prevent a problem from happening.

I use STP fuel injector cleaner every 6000km. I barely see a difference in the performance of the car after adding this stuff to the tank, but it's more for piece of mind that my car will run better then expected.

At 3.79/bottle every 6k km, I'm not too worried about the financial aspect of it.

Most are made out of fish and snake oil. They don't do crap.

NEVER put any of that stuff in your car.

Sorry to hear about your problem, though. Consider a lesson learned at a great price. Good luck with fixing it.

Well if you read around, specially in the ignition problem links, there are others who use FICleaners.
My question is which ones have you guys used and found not too harmful for you car, gave you better throttle response, and hope of better gas consumption? Castrol used to have one out but i guess got discontinued.

I found RXP gas additive reduces emissions and cleans the engines carbon deposits pretty well.
