Thumbs down Don't Use ArmorAll Protection Wipes!!!!

I was in the process of having 'sex' with my car (washing/waxing ) when I decided to try something out. I had a bottle of ArmorAll Protection Wipes for vinyl that my friend had dropped off. I decided to give it a go on the dash and the sides of the doors. Big mistake, that stuff leaves everything super shiny (in a bad way) and there are streaks EVERYWHERE. There really isn't a way to get rid of it either . I was waiting to see if it would evaporate but nope, doesn't happen. Ughh, my black interior looks like poo now. ArmorAll Wipes are plain sh!t so don't buy 'em.

get a mircofiber mitt, and wipe it down with it... it works great. All that shine will go away.

ok this microfiber mitt has to be the best thing that has ever happened to me!! I use it for everything, i used it for my leather my dash, and for waxing. I just noticed they jacked up the prices on them... so im guessing alot of people agree with me. You can read and buy them on this site....

I dont have the mitt, but the microfiber towels are excellent. I love em. Till you get one Wet a towel and start buffing that crapp off of your dash. A wet towel should get most of it off.

recommendations?

Can someone recommend a good product to use on the dash?? I want to protect the dash, but DON'T want to lose the 'matte' finish of the dash. Everything I see out there leaves a greasy look.

Pinnacle Vinyl & Rubber Protectant is the best!! Seems real nice too. its not greasy at all..... id say get it!!! I love all the products of pinnacle, even the leather conditioner works really well!!! Yea Armor All sucks big time, dont use it!!! I just have to be the dissenting voice here again. Armor All doesn't suck! If it really sucked, would it have like 90% of the protectant market? (I don't know their real market share, so that's a pure guess.)

Anyway, I've been using Armor All on all my cars for the past ten years. It keeps the plastic/vinyl/leather looking new, and I personally like the shinier look. For awhile I didn't, and I used Armor All Low Gloss, which worked like a charm.

Now as for the wipes, I've never tried those so I don't know. It sounds like that might be a non-starter!

Armorall is too shiny. If I put it on the dash and when the sun it. It just like a lighting to hit on your eye. Last time, I had my car washed and the detailer accidentally put some Armoral on the dash. I immediately use the Lexol vinyl cleaner to wipe it all off. It works great.

The Pinnacle's product is the best, especially the spray on was. It works like a charm.

I used the Armour All wipes yesterday... it came out great

The only problem that I had was that I had problems separating the wipes cleanly from the roll that you are given.

Other than that It looks clean and is very easy and fast to do.

try to use a wet cloth while applying armour all... and spray the armour all on the CLOTH not the dash... it worked with me on my old cars, HOWEVER... i haven't tried it on the TL yet... i think by wetting the cloth you kinda "dilute" the armour all.. and it won't turn out to be as shinny

does anyone know if Meguire makes anything for the dash?

A good low gloss product is the Aerospace 303 protectant, supposed to be the highest UV protection you can get.

Pinnacle is good but it is very expensive.

I like LEXOL VINYLEX the best. is 2nd best next to 303 aerospace in terms of UV protection, but i like the satin slighty shiny finish of lexol beter.

I use lexol on my dash, vinyl, tires (don't use silicone based dressing it'll turn your tires brown).

I also have the Vinylex, haven't tried it yet, the 303 has been working pretty well for repelling dust as well.

Armor All makes a low gloss cleaner/protectant, but my problem is with the wipes themselves. They seem to shed and leave a dustlike trail. If you just use the low gloss spray with a better quality rag, it works much better than the wipes.

Wipes

I agree that the wipes do leave a trail of small fibers on the dash. On a black interior it really stands out.

I used the Amoral cleaner wipes once to get somethings sticky off the dash. It worked but left fibers all over were I cleaned it.

I now use Lexol Vinylex for the dash and the Lexol cleaner/conditioner for the leather seats. Noticed that my local Acura dealer carriers it also.

BTW-You can pick up Lexol at most automotive places. Bought mine at Pep Boys.

David Solomon at Nutz & Boltz has indicated that Armorall can hasten tire sideall dry rot because it seals in dirt and compunds that should naturall "air".

I prefer Meguair's vinyl treatment and the very similar Zymol. These use sesame oil as one of the compunds, which has excellent replenishment qualities without preventing the outgassing of the compunds in vinyl.

But, the best overall is 303 Protectant - this is used in 55 gallon drums in Disney Wolrd for rubberized tarps, etc.

It is also widely used in the marine field, where sals and sun make the harshest judge.

It settles down to a nice matte finish and avoinds the greasy kid stuff look. But, the best overall is 303 Protectant - this is used in 55 gallon drums in Disney Wolrd for rubberized tarps, etc.

The wipes are more trouble than they are worth...they leave little lint trails behind them, they sometimes streak, and Armor-All lathered it on a bit too thick - let moisture would have been better in this case.

The only thing I use the wipes for is getting mud and other stuff off the Defender's fender flares and rock sliders. No use ruining perfectly good towels, and that black plastic eats car dusters for breakfast.

Use Armorall lo-gloss. spray it on a sponge. I use a 3x3 sponge, get it from any hardware boxes where they have to sponge their hard drives, cd-roms, ect.
Wipe evenly and viola..
I have been an armorall fan for a while. I also use it on my tires.
I have not use the microfiber stufs so I can't comment on that.

TOTALLY AGREE... LEATHER & VYNIL WIPES (not armor all, but a good brand none the less) ARE "GARBAGE"!!!
i used both on my car about 2 weeks ago, before even doing a search on whether this stuff is ok for the car's interior or not... BIG MISTAKE!!! Now, like everyone else on this post, I got shiny streaks all over the leather seat's back and on the door's vinyl trim and other spots... Guess I'm gonna follow Mr. HYDE's advice and use my microfiber cloth and hope and can get as much othe shine off that I see as I can... DAMN... (I tried using a wet towel and it did very little to remove the shiny streaks).
AGAIN... DON'T use this "wipe" crap!!!

I personally like them but here is another use you may not have considered...

Say you are sick and tired of your significant other. You want out in a big way but don't want the hassle of a divorce or the expense of a hitman. Just tell her you'll detail her car over the weekend and lather the steering wheel and brake pedal with the wipes. You'll look like a hero for "taking care" of her car and the resulting accident will look like just that. NOTE: this probably only works if you live next to a major highway where her first brake will be the one as she's entering from a ramp.

Just finished doing the best that I could with the microfiber cloth that I had. It "diminished" a good amount of the streaks (I think it's harder to "buff" it out of the leather). There are still some very minor showing here and there, but believe me, it's alot better than what it looked like a few hours ago. I guess I gotta spend a little more time "buffing" it off, but I don't think I'll be able to totally get rid of everything. I'm hoping with "time" passing by, the interior will go back to a more "normal" look.
Again, I think it (microfiber cloth) did a very good job, so I recommend everyone to use this (in cloth or mitt format). Good luck to all!

Yeah, those wipes suck major azz. Armor All on the interior is old school for the 80's and early 90's. My friend still does it on his 85 Z28
