does the CEL turn red?

my gf had the car today. said the CEL came on. i asked her to make sure if its CEL and not maintence required light (which i knew was on - i timed it just in sync with my oil change intervals). went to see for myself, and yup, it's on. going to autozone in the morning (hopefully, it's the tranny - it's not acting up but the waranty is just about to run out - 11k. i would like to 'renew' it's warantee by getting a new one.)

anyways, i had class so i couldn't do anything about the car at that moment, so she drove it home (20miles). during the trip, she said the CEL turned red.

fact or fiction? just wondering...

... still wondering what else it could be,... nothing seems wrong, other than a squeaking noise i'm starting to notice when going over bumps (but isn't engine related)... i think i'm having that problem w/ the teins.. they have a problem of squeaking right..??

an update tomorrow.

Dunno about the problem, but you can always beat the hell out of the 3rd gear, and hopefully dominate the clutchpack if you are aiming for a new tranny.

no, i doin't wanna beat it... it's been a good tranny so far. i'm just saying that's what i hope the light is about though...

basically, i just want a code where it's fix under waranty, or something inexpensive...

Mmm, I've never seen or heard of the MIL turning red.

I think she's mistaken.

that light never turns red. And if you get a new tranny you dont "renew" the warranty. The tranny will be good for the remainder of teh 7 year OR 100k (original car miles) or its own 12month 12k miles.

I thought I was the only one trying to get a new tranny before my warranty expired I've got 86k now, so I figure around 95k, i'm going to drive the kill 3rd gear and get my fresh one. Anyone think the dealer will give me any crap about my bolt-ons? They've been good to me on the first 2 trannies, but you never know.

yes, that's the thing, i'm at 111k already, and the last tranny was installed around 99k-100k... i'm on my third one. so i'm talking about the 12 month/ 12k warranty

btw, i pulled the code, it's p1456 or 1459 i forget which one. ah... i think it was auxillary emission something something... i'm guessing o2 sensor??

can someone tell me the exact def. of the code?

weird thing happened.. after getting the code pulled yesterday, i drove around today, and noticed the light was gone...?? i know the guy didn't reset it, b/c i asked him not too. but now it's gone..? does that mean anything?

i noticed it was gone after i floored it entering the highway.. before when the light was on, i didn't drive hard, expecting that it could be the tranny..

P1456 EVAP System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)

P1457 EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)

It must have been one of those... if the light went away, then it means the problem is no longer there. I've had that happen, although it wasn't evap control related.

However, the problem could actually still be there... just the computer thinks it is gone. The light could come back on any time. Or it was a fluke in the first place and now it's fixed.

hm... i doint think it was the gas cap.. haven't pumped gas, and it went away while driving. i was actually testing my tires in the rain. gunned it then stop, repeated a couple times.. i was bored.

so will the code still be there? i'm going to bring it in, my SRS light is on, and i already reset it, and it came back on, so there is a problem. might as well tell them about the CEL
