Does anyone know if the Rack & Pinion on a BASE and Type-S Model are interchangable?

I know there are different but Im just curious if I can mount up a 02/03 Rack & Pinion to my 1999 TL Base? Is all the mounting points the same? I know the lines are different as well but my main concern is the mounting points. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
J14

TL-P and TL-S are not interchangeable. 99 tl and 02-03 tl is interchangeable.

^ yep, the TL-P uses variable assist ps that gets powered/assisted by the trans the TL-S does not.

Thanks for both your input.

Here's the thing.....I did the Type-S conversion so Im not using the variable assist ps that gets powered/assisted by the trans anymore as my new Type-S tranny doesnt have it. I tried to bypass it by running a loop which is working fine but Im noticing that my steering when turning it squeeks really bad. I believe since I dont have that tranny assisting pump anymore something is not flowing correctly which is causing the squeling. If I can keep my steering rack and figure out a way to fix the squeling Im all ears.

The reason why I was thinking of just swapping out the entire rack and pin I figured it would be easier but once again the mounting points is at question. I should have clarified a bit more! Sorry.

So now with that said and done does anyone know a way of resolving this without replacing the entire setup of one from a type-s?

Thanks

Are you sure the belt is tight enough? How is your fluid level. Mine is bypassed with the loop and it works just fine.

Belts tight enough not to loose not to tight. Fluid levels are fine. Internesting so you looped yours and your is fine? Thats good to hear I was really hoping not to replace the steering rack as mine was in well working order prior to the conversion. hmmmm I wonder if my pump may be dying? Any other insight you can think of?

Is there anyone else who has swapped tranny's with a 6 Speed where the tranny no longer utilizes the variable assist ps that gets powered/assisted by the trans and did you loop it and everything works fine?

I just want a few more confirmations if possible before maybe purchasing a new power steering pump since Im not sure what else it could be.

Thanks in advance
