DIY pulling CEL code? Which obd2 pins?

Firstly there are codes that don't store, I had to drive around in recording mode to get the TPS code.
The light went on but then went away when the car was restarted.
Then there is the possibility of fubaring the car from putting paperclips into the connector, or the connector.
Finally the battery deal is not 100% it may or may not clear the cel & then you have to reset all your radio presets & in my case two NAV settings.
If your time has no value to you by all means do it this way, for me, I have limited time and having to reset my Kenwood Stereo/NAV (a complex deal that takes 30 minutes now that I have it down to a science) is reason enough to be unwilling except if 100% necessary to do.

BTW, there was nothing that coud have been seen even if i had checked under the hood, the plug was still connected to the sensor, just not fully in. I knew the trouble was not something obvious I could just point out by looking at the engine.

Yes. But using the paperclip methods does not give you the PXXXX codes. It gives you a number (you count the CEL flashes) and this number equals a P code.
BTW, I have the list if anyone wants it. (Gotta love ALLDATA)
Why pay 170$ when you can do it for free.
unplugging the battery for 5-10 mins will do the same thing, again, for free.
Now guys, i checked the TPS signal on my VAFC2... it wasnt working at all. Looked under the hood, SURPRISE! The connection had came loose.
Problem fixed!

I got cel today and did the "jump pins 8 -13 method" ,the cel flashes 6 times and a 3-4 second pause and then 6 times 3-4 seconds pause and so on. Is the code i'm getting 006? Also the abs and tcs lights flash while doing this,does this mean anything?
While the cel light goes on the rpm's are higher than normal. I reset the code and it came back when when i played around with the tube going to the short ram intake,in the front of the intake before the tb.

higher than normal rpm + tube going to intake makes me think you have a vacuum problem.

Here is the complete list of CEL codes for the TL (pdf format). The number between ( ) after each PXXXX code is the one the CEL light flash method gives you.

Again, here is the procedure to pull the code(s):
1. Jumper the service connector
2. Turn the ignition key to ON
3. Count the flashes on the instrument panel
4. Look up what the code means
the flashes will be a series of long blinks, a pause, followed by short ones. For example:
Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long____ShortShort
7 long and 2 short, indicates a code 72, Cyl #2 misfire.
Once you've got the code, you should have a pretty good idea of exactly what the problem is. You can troubleshoot from there.

if the tube going to the TB is loose or has a hole or any damage- or the airbox top is broken at a sealing screw, those will cause vac leak- idle surge and poor running

tighten everything up- then proceed as needed

Btw, ABS/TCS lights can show codes too (if they're on when the car's running, indicating something is wrong)
For example, my TCS light came on with the CEL. It showed code 31 and 36.. But that was caused by the CEL itself...
