I used the trim ring that came with my radio. I figure that each manufacture will have a slightly different trim ring, with slightly different dimensions. With that being said, you want to slowly cut the outside of the trim ring to fit within the base kit. Once trimmed to the right size...epoxy into the base. Just remember not to mess with the interior of the trim ring.

The "Metra" single din kit is what I am referring to. The kit has notches for the CD holder to install tight in place. I would image that you could epoxy the two for more security, but I didn't because I didn't want glue residue.

Good Luck

And the design you have with the screen sitting flush with the kit allows it to open and close smoothly?

I have the same kit from UNCALD4 and the same radio as in the pic. Mine is flush and it doesn't interfere with opening/closing. When looking down, the screen is flush!

I found that centering the radio leaving a slight gap on the bottom and top of the opening of the kit will make sure it doesn't catch. That's what worked for me.

What other double dine players can fit in the TL using this modification method. Is there one that has a navigation feature???? sorry for the newbie question.

Testors has actually discontinued that color paint in a spray can, it is now only available in 1oz bottles. I looked everywhere for that damn color and finally e-mailed Testors and they said no more spray cans for the Graphite Metallic. Although they did have a nice suggestion about buying an airbrush and using the 1oz bottles, but I don't really feel like shelling out the cash for an airbrush right now or scouring all hobby shops for the bottles. I'm also a little skeptical about how it would look airbrushed.

Still a great write-up, just need to find another matching paint, or buy an f'n airbrush.

huge diy man, looks REAL clean! I just got the w505 and i'm hoping I can make this happen. Question about the trim ring though. You said you used a razor knife to trim the top and bottom? How did you cut it so straight? Could you go into a litle more detail on how you cut the trim ring? Thanks!
