Stop counting the milage: Illegal. I dont think the car would allow you to do such thing? I mean, It's Illegal you know..

Exactly, it is illegal. I want to know if people do shit like this to TLs. A buddy of mine bought an MR2 couple of years ago. Few months later he found out that his SPEEDOMETER was disconneted and the milage shown in his car wasnt the actual milage. I dont know how he found out.

I want to know if our cars are as vulnerabile as for example MR2?

Sorry for the confusion gusy!

Dont our cars keep the mileage in the ECU and not in the guage cluster.. so even if you disconnected it..it would still add up the miles... not sure though>>>>>

You can probably pull out the fuse for it. I dont know about the TLs but you can on old BMWs. A long time ago (before I was born) my dad wanted a BMW 325es so they had to drive it from some place he gets in the car and says to the driver how is there only 8 miles on this? The driver said thats how they ship cars is they pull out the fuse. He said he forgets what but he got something thrown in for free and they extanded his warranty for it.

No they dont store it in the ECU.

and if you disconnect the power to the trip/odo or try to tamper with it its supposed to show a error message

So, if you take you in dealer, they should be able to tell if the owner tempered with the milage?

i think it would be possilbe to take an exact same speedometer with lower mileage you should be able to swap it out with no problem. i think it's just plugs that go into the speedometer.

A Carfax report might be able to reveal an unusual mileage progression since it will often list odometer readings with service dates.

What is it about your car that makes you suspect that the odometer reading is low?

What is the model year and how many miles are indicated?
