I had a friend that was service manager at an independent repair garage. He told me to never buy a die hard battery. They replaced many of them that were not even 3 years old. I just replace my DIE Hard that came with the car with another after market battery. I would stay clear of the diehard for sure. Do a search here for other recommended batteries.

It all really depends on your electronics on the car. The Diehard Gold IMO, is a good battery with a good warrenty for a standard stock car. If your battery give your any sorts of problems within 3 years, they replaced the battery free of charge.

Say it goes out 5 years later, they'll pro-rate the battery and so you won't really have to pay full price for the next.

If you have a upgraded stereo which require more juice or if you do alot of offroading, then a Gel type battery like Optima is more recommended.

Optima red top offers a 3 year warrenty with the cost around $130-140
Optima Yellow top offers only a 1 year warrenty with a cost around $180-200
Diehard (not gel) Gold offers a 3 year warrenty with the cost around $75-85

Keep in mind that if you do get a Diehard battery from Sears and it has a problem been replace more then 3 times, it's probably not the battery.

well i've never experienced the problems Luke7 is talking about with sears batteries and my family has almost exclusively used them. not to say they are the best battery out there, but not the worst.

consumer reports looked at car batteries recently. the die hard did not score great. the interstate Mega-Tron Plus and the Everstart 24F-3N were the best batteries listed for the Acura TL, according to their tests. The ever start battery is only $45 according to them. if i recall the everstart is a walmart battery. i know 2 people who use them with no complaints.

Yeah if your going to get a regular battery just buy the one from wal-mart. Very cheap, they offer a warranty and pro rate also. I have one right now that is stored outside that gets used as a spare for our vehicles. I just float charge it every few months but even though its been outside it starts the car up every time I need it!

I've read that the Kirkland batteries from Costco are also very good. They were given a Top 5 rating from Consumer Reports.

A nugget from my archives. The text in blue color is NOT me. The blue text is from something that I saved for my reference (my archives). The important thing to note is that not all DIEHARD batteries are the same. IF someone says a diehard is bad/good, we need to know if they mean the Gold or Silver or Weatherhandler batteries.

Hey *** I sell Optima's and Diehards ***.

Personally I prefer the Optima Red Top, otherwise for a step down but stout battery get a DieHard Gold Battery.

The Gold is comparable to an AC Delco.

However never ever buy the DieHard Silver or Weatherhandler batteries.

It is a Sham...i honestly wish Sears only made the Gold. To many cheapskates buy the Silver and Weatherhandlers and B**** how bad they are cuz they didnt have the fortitude to buy the Gold in the 1st place,

When I traded in my Accord for TL, I swapped the batteries which was bought recently at Walmart. With -40F weather, no problem starting my TLS with seat heaters on using remote starter after sitting out cold for 8 hours at work. I would recommend Walmart's Everstart brand.

Considering the cost of the Diehard GOLD. Go buy something else cheaper and just as good!

You cant go wrong with the Yellow top Optima batt. Don't waste your money on anything else.
